noise for noise's sake

It seems to be a hobby around our way to constantly make loud bangs using a modified bamboo tube and i am told the combustion source is lighter fluid.
It used to happen every year around Christmas and new year time but this year it started over a month ago, from morning until 8 or 9 pm BANG bang BANG bangBANG bangBANG bangBANG bangBANG bang bangity BANGITY bang BANG.
A few years ago we saw 2 teenage boys firing this device close to our house so my wife shouted some filipino abuse at them and they made off, now they fire this thing along the road a bit, there are many houses and people living there and as i see or hear nobody scolding them this seems to be an acceptable activity.
I have lived in the Philippines many years now and i still have not been able to work out what makes filipino's tick so i guess i will have to file this in with the noisy motorbike exhaust's.
BUT does it make me a bad person to hope, wish and even pray that someday this device will misfire and blow a hand off, or maybe i would settle for a few fingers ?

 

We live far from any real civilization, but, either their teachers or parents buy the children whistles and noise makers of any kind. Then we have the occasional loud mufflers. When that is not enough, they learned to make noises blowing into their hands! Im guessing it has something to do with sheer boredom.
