This may have been discussed before, but I can't remember. Will we be able to opt out of Obamacare if we reside out of the U.S., and what will be the procedure for us to do so? Anybody have the real info?
Great timing! My wife and I (both Americans) were just talking about that this evening and we didn't know the answer!
Same here....both American citizens. I haven't found any viable info on the internet, although I am sure it is there, I just got tired of looking. Hopefully somebody has the correct information.
From what I have read, yes, Americans living overseas are exempt from most horrors created by Obummercare. This may help; Obamacare Tax | Expatriate Tax Return | Americans living Abroad Larry
More; Basic Information 1. What is the individual shared responsibility provision? Under the Affordable Care Act, the federal government, state governments, insurers, employers and individuals are given shared responsibility to reform and improve the availability, quality and affordability of health insurance coverage in the United States. Starting in 2014, the individual shared responsibility provision calls for each individual to have minimum essential health coverage (known as minimum essential coverage) for each month, qualify for an exemption, or make a payment when filing his or her federal income tax return. 6. What are the statutory exemptions from the requirement to obtain minimum essential coverage? 9. Not lawfully present. Thanks, Shadow. The blog has good info, but the IRS.gov website has what I was looking for. In other words, if we aren't required to file income taxes (we aren't, but we do anyway just to cover our butts), then we are exempt. It seems they will start following up in 2015, those who are, or are not, required to procure the coverage. I think I will see about getting the certificate if exemption just to make sure all bases are covered. Hopefully, something will happen and Obamacare will get overturned by then!!
Hopefully, something will happen and Obama will be overturned by then, but unfortunately it looks like we will then get another 8 years of Hilary. O-| Larry
Will be the first time in American history that the same party has won an election after a two term president. The dems have a very strong chance of accomplishing this. The republicans have very few candidates that could pull off a win. Most are just freaking idiots, too far right, not remotely likable and out of touch with the average person, they have no clue what the people are looking for. (If Rubio is not in the next presidential election the GOP has no hope)
I think we all need to read the So called Affordable Healthcare Act. The last number I saw was 20,299 pages. I figure I should be done reading the bill in about 5-6 years. Of course with daily amendments who knows how long. Check back with me about the year 2019 and I'll let you know what I found out.
Of course legislature is over complicated. It is actually a good thing for older people though, younger guys like myself are the ones who really suffer on this bill. Generations of my age (30) and younger are the ones who are really going to suffer in the US. As the baby boomers reach retirement age and start collecting social security the country is going to take a steep downwards spiral. Too many people on the dole and not enough paying in. Thanks old people for screwing up the country.
