I like Dumaguete. Natives here are mostly nice and gentle and honest. But I find many locals here to have a stereotypical small mindedness, especially when it comes to matters of sex and man/woman relationships. Maybe it's because I have not interacted much with the upper classes here, but I find a percentage here to be judgemental in a religious sort of way, don't really know how to explain it. Certain aspects of their cultural expectations regarding courtship are difficult to tolerate. The younger women here do not particularily want older white guys and the ones that do seem to look for a guy that will be very generous, just make them feel good, without much consideration to the practicalities and whether or not the relationship has a chance for long term success. They are unsophisiticated, the ones I have met.
The other thing I don't like is what I consider to be high costs for a small town. The shopping is poor and I have yet to hear good music here, a good band. No jazz, no piano bars that I know of. For a university town there is no culture here.

So considering places like Davao, Cebu, CDO among others. But I am torn. I really don't want to give up the friendliness I find here among the locals, the relative safety of the place and the ease to get around town cheaply. Anyone else considering those places or lived there? I think Davao might be as cheap or even cheaper than Dumaguete with alot more to offer as a City. I guess I will have to visit to find out.

My experience here is quite opposite to this. Perhaps it is that I am meeting different people than you meet, or perhaps my expectations are different. Try visiting those places you mention to see how you like them. To answer your question, I lived in Cebu but I like Dumaguete better.

Did a search on the name you gave and dumaguete and got 0 results. So either they have not been reviewed or wrong spelling/name? The groups I've seen on the Blvd. are in the main mediocre at best.

I see many complaints from guys who are either looking to get out of Cebu or already have. In my short trip to the place, I found the air polluted, traffic terrible. Supposedly Davao is cleaner and friendlier, not so big cityish. But the selection of pretty ladies who actually speak English fairly proficiently is much higher than in Dumaguete.

You aren't basing your entire assessment of Dumaguete by what is on the Boulevard and online are you? Go out towards Hayahay. Tiki, Azul and Hayahay have good music from time to time. You won't find the schedules online. Go to the bar and ask the managers what their band schedule is. They will be happy to fill you in. If you want the "down low" on the night life you have to go out at night and find it....or PM me when I'm in town.

As for the "class" in Dumaguete....well it's the Philippines mate, most everyone out at local bars are teens or in their early 20s. The most class I had at that age is sticking the pinky finger out while downing shots of tequila (momma taught me manners).

Yes, I think I will take your advice. And that is the other problem that you pointed out. Dumaguete has a dirth of older, more experienced, mature women who are not married or saddled with several kids. I think it is a dilemma to find such a woman who also has the feminine qualities that are so endearing to most men. But of course much better than the situation back home.
