There is no longer any ferry service between Manila/Dumaguete.

I think you can still buy tickets from the 2GO office for Manila, or at least from local travel agencies and they will bus you to Bacolod then ferry to Manila. I have seen advertising signs posted around town. WGA and Negros Navigation (as well as Cebu Ferries) all fall under 2GO now and as mentioned above, they haven't been to Dumaguete in quite a while. Trans Asia doesn't come in to Dumaguete.

True enough, what I don't understand is why anyone would pay for a 6 hour grueling bus ride, then a 24 hour boat trip, when you can fly for the same price and be there in an hour?

Let me guess; some people like a gruelling bus ride of 6 hours to admire the many panoramic views and do experience the 24 hours boat trip as a real adventure. After all, it's more fun in The Philippines.
In my situation more fun during a one hour domestic flight, but we are all not the same.
So really wish Mohon69 a pleasant trip.

In my situation (4 weeks vacation to philippines, family of 4)..boat ride would be ideal considering all the stuff/baggage were bringing along...the last time i rode a ship mnl/dgt was 12 years ago with sulpicio lines/wga .. and it was really fun with all the promos they gave to us during those time..it seems that theres no more direct trip now..maybe via the ports of other cities like bacolod then a bus ride down to dumaguete which is not a good.

I've experienced very long ferry trips in this country before -- if it's an overnight then you save one nights cost of a hotel room, making the fare that much cheaper; and there is something kind of charming about holing-up in your private cabin with a great book, good snacks and a bottle of booze, forget the world for a long while... just coming out topside once in a while to enjoy the breeze and watch the waters go by, napping when desired...

Of course, some of us get plenty of opportunities for all that right at home, but...
