MANILA, Philippines – At 31 reported killings in 2015, the Philippines has one of the worst track records in the killing of human rights defenders (HRD) worldwide, according to a recent report. (READ: Extrajudicial killings remain unprosecuted in PH)

The report from Front Line Defenders, or the International Foundation for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, found 25 countries where HRDs were killed. The global total for 2015 was 156 HRDs killed.

The 31 killings in the Philippines make up almost 60% of the 52 reported in Asia and the Pacific.

The Philippines is second to Colombia and the highest outside the Americas. (READ: Things to know: Human rights in the Philippines)

Front Line Defenders defined HRDs as “people who, individually or collectively, work peacefully on behalf of others to promote and defend internationally recognized human rights.” PH 2nd highest in killings of human rights defenders – watchdog

    From the first link:
That is a massive discrepancy. How is the CHR coming up with their numbers? Not saying it doesn't happen but it seems they pulled this 1,200 number right out of their *sses. They are a political group and as such I believe they are being a bit "creative" with their data collection methods to promote their agenda (I'm sure they keep their data collection methods a closely guarded secret :meh:). The real numbers are probably somewhere between the "official" government numbers and the CHR numbers. It's impossible to know who exactly is being more truthful.

    Second link:
This HR group praises peace agreements with a group/religion that has one of the worse human rights records in the history of mankind......yeah, ok. :meh: Sometimes you just can't hug things out.
