    Hi,

what are the best places to buy a cheap used or new motorcycle? I am a motorcycle greenhorn so I am looking for something that just drives, nothing fancy, and where I am not breaking my life savings if I have an accident .

Are there any dealers in town who are renown for good (technically fit) second hand motos? What should I expect to pay for a cheap moto new or second hand?

I already checked classifieds like olx or sulit but as I don't know much about motorcycles (yet!) I'd rather buy from a dealer because I can be sure that the moto is in a state of good maintenance... ?!

Any answer or shared experience would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Stefan

Are you talking scooter, off road, street bike? 50cc? 110cc? 1700cc?
Du Ek Sam (Honda) and GUD trading (Kawasaki) are the two bigger ones in town. There is a new place on the same street as Siliman Medial, closer to the high way, selling used bigger bikes. Mostly race bikes.

There are many, Rusi is the largest and sells the most bikes, Legaspi Street, Dumaguete. New bikes starting around P40,000.

RUSI main showroom for new bikes is now on Sta. Rosa street. They also have a used bike depot on Luke Wright but I dont know if they are for sale or just storage for repos. Filipinos aren't renowned for doing much maintenance on their bikes or cars, so if you are in the market for a used bike, either buy one from an expat who probably had some pride in his machine, or take someone knowledgeable with you when you go to look at some.

YAMAHA in Dumaguete is a good store to deal with. They also have excellent technicians. I purchased a new Yamaha Sniper and a new Yamaha YBR. New the cost is 60 -75.000. If that is not the price range you are looking for, my best recommendation is to find a used Yamaha YBR, there are some available at Sulit .com, also check Ebay Philippines. Good luck and good driving with helmet.

Wow this is really a sweet community, many active members and good tips... thanks!

Well... I am just a beginner so I was thinking about a 100-125cc street bike. Mostly going to Dumaguete from my barangay... no offroad or longer trips.

I found a 100cc street bike second hand from one of the filipino/chinese brands. 7000km down, good condition for 25k pesos... would that be a good deal? Just trying to figure out the prices...

You know I don't want to buy a bike for like 75k new and then crash it the first month. I had hoped to get some second hand bike for like 30k just for the first few months until I understand how the traffic works around here hehe...

    Hmmmm! :D of course...

Talk him down to 20k. I bought my Honda wave 100cc with 15k km for 25k. The off brands should be cheaper even with less milage.

Try 18k first. Have cash in hand and make sure he sees it. If he won't accept that Throw an extra 2k in and say that's all you can pay. Be prepared to walk away. He will likely call you back when he realizes he ain't getting anymore.

Check the exhaust, pegs and Handle bars for scratches as this indicates a wreck. Plastic they can replace cheaply, they likely will just paint over the scratches on metal. If it's been dropped make sure you point that out. Tell him you want to take it to a mechanic.......of your choice, not his cousin, to have a checkup.

Maybe some other members can suggest other things to look at and a mechanic to take it to.
