I know i am just a foreigner but unless it is a job creation scheme i don't understand the perpetual clearing of vegetation.
All the trees along the sides of the concrete roads that most of the power lines are routed should be permanently chopped down not pruned and anyone who replants trees in that area fined and the plants removed.
Apart from the damage to the power cables there are coconut trees around our area that regularly drop coconuts onto the road, if your car was there at the time the damage would be bad (if you are on 2 wheels probably fatal) and who would pay apart from your insurance company, the clown who planted/owned the tree would probably just make a profound statement like the trees were there before the road.

Landowners are reluctant to cooperate with these electrical companies because they fail to obey court orders to compensate them for land usage, damages or to remove their illegal infrastructure. There is little chance landowners are going to let these private companies on their property to remove vegetation or put up poles. I don't blame them one bit for telling them to p*ss off.

Yes i agree when the trees are actually on their land but i am only concerned about alongside the concrete roads.
I had dealings with my lovely neighbours some time ago regarding trees planted on our borderline and showed them republic article act 679 that states trees cannot be planted within 2 metres of a border between properties and must be uprooted.
I know a lot of people build houses/fences close to these concrete roads and then have problems when the roads are being widened or drain canals made.
The concrete roads belong to the government so they should have no problem enforcing the 2 m rule there.

Yeah, but we all love you anyway!

I wonder how good insurance companies here will be at paying up. Only had one claim so far, for a vehicle, and they paid. Anyone had any problems with claims here (Philippines generally)?

That's news. So many houses have trees overhanging from neighbours - even roofs overhang. Is it just too difficult to get Republic Article 679 enforced without having damage inflicted upon the 'complaining' house or owner?
