    I don't know.
Are you moving the goal posts?

In one post you state that people shouldn't give a crap about wearing a mask.
Then in the next you state they should:
Your references are arbitrary and capricious. The argument would make more sense if it specified which "crazy restrictions" were so bad. Many countries do not impose "crazy restrictions" and are doing rather well. Taiwan has not closed it's schools or restaurants. They do not have a bunch of libertarians stomping around demanding liberty at any cost to the economy.
Your argument that old people should self isolate is flawed. What you fail to realize is that old people cannot self isolate. They need access to medical care. If we let COVID run amok like you say the hospitals and doctors offices would fill up with sick young people. Old people would not be able to get medical care for cancer, heart attacks, etc without exposing themselves to the COVID patients in the hospital and doctors offices. Therefore the concept that old people can self isolate is flawed.
What makes you think you can have it both ways? Previously you have stated that you are here to avoid excessive government control.
One moment you seek liberty and in the next you want the government to force isolation.
You are moving the goal posts and your arguments lack reason and accountability.

I just hope that this does not take off in Dumaguete as it has in all states and cities in the USA following what appears to be a concerted effort by advisers in the White house to endorse uncontrolled spread to enhance immunity. A matter now being quickly denied by those implicated.

I'll clarify: Most shouldn't be concerned about becoming gravely ill or dying from COVID. If local policy is to wear a mask, then wear a mask.
Community quarantine is the main one. Forcing certain businesses to stay closed. Telling people to stay home. I don't agree with any of this.
I know. But they still should be forced to stay home. Tax dollars should be redirected to programs that can help support the elderly and high risk people financially, logistically and medically. We cannot continue to screw our economies and have government continue to spend with reduced tax dollars coming in. Screwing the world up for future generations...as the older generations have constantly done their entire lives.
No it doesn't. Those that are at high risk have the most to lose and should be isolated from the rest of society...instead of isolating society from them. I imagine many here are in one of these groups and this would be very unpopular...just as the rule here that forced seniors and children to stay at home was.

Crashing the world economy to cater to a minority is not liberty or freedom. I would prefer that high risk demographics would be given the choice to self isolate, but when the majority of this minority refuses to act responsibly and in their own self interest it is damaging to the entire world. It should be forced on them. It is a high risk demographics that makes legislation so, whatever, it doesn't matter at all, it will never happen. Making actual recovery rate numbers hard to find and spreading fear to those that have no reason to fear is just the game that we are playing.

Where did this 99.9% number you keep quoting come from?

According to my simple math there have been about 300,000 (+/-)deaths in the US.
So 300,000 deaths divided by 0.1% = 300,000,000. I don't think there have been that many people infected with the virus.
During the initial stages of the pandemic the mortality rate appeared to be around 3.5%. With the increase in testing the mortality rate appears to be just under 2% which makes sense as the deaths are diluted by a higher number of cases.

From the CDC. They make it really hard to find the actual mortality rate they used to keep updated now. Now they like to provide infographics completely void of those numbers with garbage like this:
    hospitalization-death-by-age-lg.jpg
This tells us absolutely nothing and this would be true for many different diseases.

Here is a study that shows an actual percentage for a few age groups:
So the recovery rates (assuming "recovery" would happen if death didn't) would be:
99.998% - "Children and young adults"
    99.99% - 25
    99.6% - 55
    98.6% - 65
    85% - 85

So what is the actual fatality rate? I guess that depends on the age demographics of any given region.

    Thank you for the clarification.

You know these old people are voters and democratically politicians will not let them down in a public way.

Why do you espouse a plan that you know will never happen?

Your plan, that you know will never happen, is as hair brained as a plan that ships COVID infected people off to the moon for quarantine. It will never happen so why bother us with arguments supporting this idea.

This is where you are wrong.

Now that we agree that your plan will never happen, let's look at communities that have been successful at containing the spread of COVID. Taiwan comes to mind as a community with a democratically elected government that has easily repelled the onslaught of COVID at very little cost. They did this by acting together in a consistent and uniform manner.

The problem in the US is like herding cats. There are many people with independent hair brained ideas who are unwilling to follow the unified plan. This includes the current leadership.

I've always found it odd how people find a reason to call others selfish, for any particular given situation. How do we still have hungry people, dying animals, people without jobs, and millions of other problems in the world, while these non-selfish people can still afford the time and energy to come on a forum and call others selfish? Is this hypocrisy, or is there a limit to be considered non-selfish I'm not aware of?

Your question has to do with resources not selfishness.

To put it simply, there is limited resources on earth. There is not enough resources to readily feed all the people and animals.

The process is made harder by people who fail to collaborate and work towards a common cause.

Unlikely to happen in the West but it has already happened here. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it hair brained. It can be done, it has been done, it most certainly can be successful in preventing COVID deaths.
