Is there any other SkyCable Internet subscribers having any problems with their internet connection? I have, on average, two or three downtimes a month and I often look past that. But this month has been awful!

It started in July 2, the connection was down for about 6 hours or more. I went to the office at the GAT building and found out one of their subscribers close to my area is having the same problem. They sent someone the same day and it was fixed. I asked one of the two technicians what the problem was and he pointed with his nose and puckered lips towards something on the road (a pole, I guess) and said "Naa mi gi ayo didto (We needed to fix something there)". I pressed for details, asking the same question 2 more times and he just made the same gesture which did not get me closer to the answer. I was not in Dumaguete most of the time for the first two weeks so I don't know if there were any problems at that time. But when I got back on Saturday, I had absolutely no internet connection. I was getting all kinds of errors: "IP address is invalid" and something about the DNS server can't be located or is not responding. The Send and Recieve Data LED lights did not light up, not even a blink. Sometimes the Cable Led light blinks, sometimes the light is steady. One thing is constant: no internet connection.

Last time I dropped by their office, there were 2 guys who were so upset because they were experiencing the same problem. One of them is from Sibulan and I could not squeeze in a question to the other guy because he was so busy threatening to call the manager and the owner of SkyCable. Two technicians came by yesterday morning to check on my cable and wire connections and my computer. At that time, my internet connection was fine. One of them, being so sure of himself said it is always the problem with loose connection of the cable behind the modem. Uhmmm, wouldn't that be one of the first things I would check before calling the internet provider? Maybe he was too eager to get it over with. The other technician was too eager to add me on facebook. Seriously. I was all too eager to sign off the acknowlegment paper they handed to me to send them on their way. That was not tech support service that was a sexual harassment waiting to happen. Okay, I'm overthinking it.

I spoke with their tech support on the phone (035 225 7693) more than two hours ago and he said they were "fixing something" and I had to raise my voice. That same vague response is just unacceptable. Immediately, he told me to check my internet and it was fine again in an instant, which led me to think that they probably have direct control of the connectivity right where they are. 10 minutes after I hung up the phone, I could not open a single browser.

I have been patient long enough and, according to that customer who went ballistic at the SkyCable office the other day, "nice and sweet with them" long enough. I deserve a better explanation than "we're fixing something". If it hasn't been fixed by now, then obviously no one's fixing anything.

Since the beginning of this month, I have been having connection problems that last between 5 mins to 8 hrs. I am now on my 5th day of crappy internet service (and on my last shred of patience), alternating between trips to their office and phonecalls to their tech support. If there is anyone out there who can tell me what the heck is going on with SkyCable, I appreciate the information. And please don't begin by saying "they're fixing something" because that is the most I've heard all week, next to "out of stock".

skycable is just buying bandwidth from another provider and don't have a own cable to dumaguete. After everybody shouted "wow they are the best thing since sliced bread" last year, this year that goes over into complaints.

shared IP's and overselling bandwidth are big issues and you are not the only one with issues.
additional many of the skycable IP's can be found on spam-lists and access to several websites might be denied.

Interesting, Rhoody. I had been wondering a long time why I could not access certain sports blog sites for news and videos and often get a message that access is forbidden. But one can easily let that go or figure out a work-around.

It isn't the first time I heard that they take in more subscribers than they can accommodate. Sometimes, I had to switch back to the old dongle which, ironically, seems to have a more reliable speed in comparison.

I can tolerate the fact that the Philippines is the second on a recent survey of the world's slowest internet speed, but I believe it's about time to consider terminating my subscription with an internet provider that largely contributed to putting us on that list. That should help free up some bandwidth for whoever it is they are trying to impress.

you can get around with logging in via a free proxy. another option is to get a own IP. I don't know if skycable is offering that. globe does, but is pretty expensive.

With globe's shared IP's it was in feb this year at the point that there was for a week almost no access to google. many interactive websites, like blogs and forums have an issue with spammer.

I traced several sky connection back to Cebu, all with the same IP. if one of that "BPO companies" in the area (which are many times just spam-companies) shoots out thousands of block/forum/newspaper comments in an hour, the IP end up pretty fast on blacklists.

your IP is well known for forum spam !!!
(look at the results of the link below, or enter your IP into G

    Look up for 121.97.59.91

Hmmm, it looks like I'm sharing IP address with the wrong people. It is also ironic that the first forum I ever signed up for and participated in is this forum :D only to fnd out this IP address is notoriously known for forum spam.

I could just do that, get my own IP address but I'll only be here until early next year. Until then, I can hold my breath.

Thanks, Rhoody. You've been a great help.

IP means internet protocol. This would refer to your address on the internet which is provided by your ISP. ISP is Internet service provider. That would be who you pay for Internet access, such as globe, smart, sky cable or whoever else provides crappy Internet access in these here parts.

I can't say about the pokerstars Site but some websites can restrict access to certain countries or regions. I use a VPN (virtual private network) for sites like that. This is a paid service though (I think I pay 35 USD a year). I can pick and choose which country I want my location to be shown as though. You can also use a proxy server to get around this as well, and there are many available for free. Just Google "free proxy server". Just know that once a proxy servers address has been "found" many websites will add that IP address to the ban list, so you might have to find a new one every now and again.

If this isn't the case with pokerstars you'll have to have someone come over and take a look at your actual problem.
