Anyone here knowledgeable about snakes ? Right now there is one in my back yard, and I don't want to let my kitten out to investigate it. Maybe someone can identify it from this description as I can't get close enough to photograph it. It moves very fast. It's about 2 foot (60 cms) in length, thin with an extra thin tail, small head, greyish on the top and lighter on the underbelly. Light yellow under the mouth. From the head to about 3/4 down the back there are dark spots. It looks a lot like the poisonous Krait that we used to be wary of in Borneo. Any offers ?
Panic over. Neighbour grabbed it after three attempts, apparently it's a common tree snake. Close up it was very colourful, released it into someone elses garden
Roger it was a common rat snake, there are many around at the moment as breeding season. You will not find too many poisonous snakes down at this level, you can find king cobras up around some areas of Valencia and if you are lucky you may see the waglers pit viper at caseroro but nocturnal species.
I found a 2m king cobra skin in one piece about a month ago outside azalea resto on way up to twin lakes. Ps glad the snake you found was released
