    Working with Interpol, many came together to achieve the arrest. Former Negros Oriental third district congressman Arnolfo Teves, Jr. will either be repatriated or deported, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). His return to the country is processed by authorities in Timor-Leste and the Philippines after his arrest on March 21, 2024 in Dili, Timor-Leste.

    Which countries does the Philippines have an extradition treaty?

    At present the Philippines has extradition treaties with Australia, Canada, the Federated States of Micronesia (Yap, Chuuk, Kosrae, and Pohnpei).Then Hong Kong, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, the United States of America, and the Kingdom of Thailand, and treaties on mutual legal assistance on criminal matters with Australia and the United States.

    Deport vs Extradit? Arnie's passport has been cancelled so depport to another country is not possible. That leaves extridite/don't extridite for Timor Leste to decide.
    If Teves challenges the extradition request that could take time. It took the DOJ months to get an arrest warrant. That suggests the strength of their case is questionable.
    Several years ago the US wanted an executive of Huawei extridited from Canada for a financial crime. The extradition trial took years, the US finally gave up. Arnie might not be home for Christmas.
    Whether his is guilty or not is for the courts to decide. I have my opinion but I'll keep that on my porch. Half the province likes the DeGamos and the other half like the Teves.
    It's going to be a sh!tshow and I'm going to stock up on popcorn .

    Does the Philippines itself concern itself with those matters - it just throws people on a plane and sends them back from whence they came.
