I am flying back on an international flight into Cebu at 2pm in October I need to get back to Dumaguete by boat of some sort, there is a Ceres bus from south terminal at 3pm & 7pm but I doubt if I could get from the Int airport in time for the 3pm bus??? I have heard that the night bus is a bit scary? Which will get me back at about 11:30pm any suggestions please? Also is there a shuttle bus from Banilad that goes to the Sibulan a/port early in the morning for a 7:45am flight?

For me the Ceres bus at night is less scary, It's hard to see all the near misses in the dark.
Joking aside, I have taken it at night several times without a problem and won't hesitate to do it again.

    bus vs boat

I have also taken the night bus an there is not to much to be scared of, it does depend on the driver....of course I am sleeping, but that happens on the day bus too. I think the bus is more comfortable than the day boats. The night boat with a bunk is pretty comfortable but the small rows of seat in the the day boats are not comfortable for full size people.

The problem with the evening or night bus is that when the sun goes down the aircon works great. Many times I come away with a sinus cold. I would suggest taking additional clothes to cover yourself up. I take a hooded sweatshirt which can double as a pillow if necessary. It is fun to see the people ad more and more clothes as the bus gets colder. Now besides taking additional clothes I take vitamin C before the trip. ON the Boat from Cdo to Cebu it was extremely cold. I guess that is the way they like it here in the Philippines when traveling. Everyone was walking around with ski jackets on ... in the tropics...O-|

I haven’t been in Cebu for years, my flight arrives in at 2pm on a Sunday, the Ceres bus leaves at 3pm to Duma, what chance do I have of making it? How far is it from the int airport? And time taken, I understand that there other boats available but cant seem to make sense of the info on the net, help needed please

If you arrive on an international flight in Cebu, you'l pass immigration and customs and that will take time.
By taxi from Mactan airport to Cebu south bus terminal takes between 45 min. and one hour.
So count on 2 to 3 hours between scheduled flight arrival and arrival in the bus terminal.
Cebu South bus terminal is not a Ceres terminal, also other bus companies are using this terminal but Ceres is the most convenient (and safest)
Every hour a few bus are leaving this terminal going south, if not going to Dumaguete you will have to change to the ferry on your own (carry your luggage) and again in Negros to reach Dumaguete.
If no big luggage you may take the fast ferry between Bato and Sibulan.
Every hour there is a Ceres bus going right to the ferry, if not just ask for a bus going (or passing) Maayo shipping and ask the bus conductor to tell you when you reach the ferry.
The trip from South terminal to the ferry takes around 3 hours.
There is always a Maayo ferry day and night.

if I had an important international flight to make from Cebu I wouldn't mess about trying to get there the same day from Dumaguete. You're in the friggin' third world, where anything can go wrong, at any time. I'd make sure I got to Cebu the night before.

    schedules locations

    Great advice

There is a boat schedule in one of the Cebu paper sold her locally. I think it is the "Freeman" It has most of the boats from Cebu with all the different shippers. I do not remember if it has prices or not.

In regards to the buses, there is a difference in the number system for the aircon buses and non-aircon. One has 4 digits, and the other has three digits. I believe the aircon has three digits. I am not sure. However when you are standing by the side of the road and a bus is bearing down on your it is easy to read the number of digits and determine if you want to risk you life by flagging it down.

Generally the Aircon bus all the way from Cebu to Dumagete terminal (goes on ferry with you) leaves at 10 AM,. 1 PM, and 3 PM there may be more, I just do not get up in the dark to catch a bus. If you do not want to go to the Dumaguete terminal but only to the ferry terminals they leave about every half hour from the Ceres SOUTH bus terminal in .

    Good luck

    Imp

We had to get off the night bus after it reached Tampii for some reason, and it was quite a wait for a bus from Bacolod to happen by.
