This was talked over some months back, i know Alex Amor he is a hard working man with his business is the one in question on the glide path to the run way. I have been at his property when a jet has come in to land, more than once has he had roof damage from wind sheer the trees give him some protection from sheer. Same old story you build an airport to service turbo props and change over to the lager jets with out putting any though into the infrastructure that would be required to safely service larger planes that are using the airport now . I am no engineer but i dont think it would take a that much to extend the runway out to sea some what

I think the whole idea of the new proposed airport at bacong was they could get bigger jets in here when needed.
If the extended the runway into the sea anymore it would not help as depends on wind direction as to which way they land and bigger jets mean more jet wash when coming over the houses!
Also the portion of runway they last built out has sunk so don't think that would be an option.

Just shoddy Philippine construction and corner cutting. It is possible to build further out to sea....just not with the levels of corruption and thievery in the Philippines.

Dave i agree, however they are years to late building an airport at Bacong that should have been done before thinking of letting jets. no it was just greed that seems to be a big problem here. You might but ill never see a plane fly out of bacong. The big boys have to buy all the land and then get ready to sell it back to the air port developer that will take time.

Most US cities have height limitations especially near airports and glide paths. Dumaguete could pass an ordinance limiting heights of buildings and/or vegetation. Of course this would not set well with those that would have to cut their coconut trees.

Not really fair to those that have lived there before the airport was built. Then again, life is not fair.

The trees in question are a type that could be looped with out damage to them, but at what cost to the buildings. Maybe the only flights that can use the runway is when the the wind suits take off and landings from the sea.

I have not seen them use it yet, but eminent domain does exist in PI. See Eminent domain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eminent domain (United States, the Philippines), compulsory purchase (United Kingdom, New Zealand, Ireland), resumption (Hong Kong), resumption/compulsory acquisition (Australia), or expropriation (South Africa, Canada) is the power of a state or a national government to take private property for public use. However, it can be legislatively delegated by the state to municipalities, government subdivisions, or even to private persons or corporations, when they are authorized to exercise the functions of public character.[1]
