Are cookies good or bad. For who? When I go to INQUIRER.net my malware protection shows 23 items blocked. If I then turn it off and refresh the page that 23 turns into 59. That is 59 trackers digging into your personal information. This repeats for every page you visit. I once had 104 trackers downloaded. There were so many trackers the trackers started tracking the trackers. Took ten minutes to type one simple letter of the alphabet. A computer today simply will not operate without malware protection. Allowing that the first 23 may be legit (haha) you can be sure the new 36 are up to no good. Their purpose being to mine personal information and sell it to unscrupulous persons so that they can rip you off. When I repeat this with DumagueteInfo.com I get two and eleven respectively. All are trackers. Purpose; track your every activity. This is of course standard practice for websites to generate revenue and I like to think DumagueteInfo.com would have nothing to do with bad company. But the problem is that once you allow anyone to download, their download can download malware and even viruses. So my question is, Are Cookies Good or Bad? For Who? Comments:
Sorry, but can't avoid a 74 yr old rant. Cookies, ain't good for YOU no how... They MIGHT speed up your signin once in awhile, but the sole purpose is to generate info for the website you visit and revenue for the browser you are using in that they can claim you as a "click." Come on folks, everybody has an opinion, maybe even SOMEBODY on the internet has facts (minority.. <grin>) Hell, now duma info has my info, but nutin they don't already have.....
The new European data protection and security law enforces to take cookies. And there are ideas to take over this law worldwide.
one explanation from cookielaw.org : The Cookie Law Explained Theoretically, you need a cookie to go between two pages on a single website, but that sounds to me like BS..<grin again> I think one real thing is it allows ur puter (your leash) to remember the username and occasionally the password of a site, but i would NEVER save a password for a financial site...
And what are the names of those cookies? Cookies do serve a purpose other than tracking what you are doing. Perhaps you should have a look at the privacy policy. It's quite transparent. Privacy Policy | Dumaguete Info If you are seeing cookies that are not mentioned in the privacy policy please post what they are and they can be looked into. The law was/is poorly written and implemented. It is going to take decades for the courts to interpret what the law actually requires.
So, it seems there are some good cookies and there are some bad cookies but the problem is once you let a cookie in you cannot control if it brings malware with it. Yet, sites like this rely on cookies to generate income to keep income flowing. What is the answer? Is it possible for a website owner to pick which cookies they use and restrict them from downloading other cookies?
You can if you are using Chrome Clear, enable, and manage cookies in Chrome - Computer - Google Chrome Help
