Welcome to Guihulngan!
Guihulngan is a small city in the province of Negros Oriental. It is located at the northern side of Dumaguete City. You can reach this place by riding a vehicle or a bus, at a maximum of 4 hours away from Dumaguete. A huge bell with a Carabao is the main attraction of the city located at the side of Justice Hall along the National Highway. There are two stories about the history of the name of this place. The first version is that the name Guihulngan started from the word “GUIPADULNGAN” which means a flowing river. The second version is that since the 19th Century when the Spaniards took over the Philippines, men and women and even children were captured, beheaded and thrown into the sea which is theTañon Strait. Since that time, this place was called “GUIHULUGAN” which means, “Place where a ting was dropped”. But in the Spanish alphabet, “U” and “N” are similar, which is why it became commonly written and known as GUIHULNGAN.
Family Bonding in Guihulngan Park and Boulevard
The total population in this City as of 2010 reached up to 93,675, making it 240 people living within every square kilometer. The locals here speak Cebuano as their language. The total land area of this place is 388.56 km2 (150.02 sq mi), which are mostly hills and mountain places. The place also has a huge amount of body of water which people rely for their living. That is why fishing is an important industry which is beneficial for the barangays near the coastal areas. This place is also rich in agricultural resources. Thus, this place has a vast of agricultural areas. It also has large forest lands. The main products of this City are rice, corn, coconut and sugar. The City also has a thriving livestock and poultry raising industries. The place has the potential into becoming an agro-industrial center. As a matter of fact, investors can even put up commercial farms as for the production of high value crops such as malungay and other vegatables and fruits. Plants are good for the production of processed foods, organic fertilizer, furniture, feeds, and other consumer goods can really become winners in this town.
Guihulngan Park
There are some tourist spots in the place which are mostly, waterfalls, swimming pools, resorts and mountain views. But the most interesting tourist destination of this place is their customized theme park. Their park is located near their boulevard area. Every night, there is a free film showing at the park. The area is filled with cartoon character and hero statues. This place is good for family bonding and outing. It is also good for pictorials. The boulevard area has a big open space which is good for long boarding. The place is quiet and peaceful at night not like other Cities.
