Christine de Jesus, a triathlete receiving her award
In celebration of the environment month, the Negros Islands took part in the recently concluded Reef to Ridge Sprint Triathlon held last June 28, 2015 at Paradise Beach Resort Green, Tandayag, Amlan Negros Oriental.
There were few government firms that supported the event. The Energy Development Corporation (EDC) and Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR) hosted the triathlon event in cooperation with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Department (ENRD), Foundation University (FU), Municipality of Amlan, Municipality of San Jose, Municipality of Sibulan and Municipality of Valencia. A few other associations like NOSDEP, TRIONE, MDRC, ONEBIKERS, and Podium Events also assisted the competition.

The Reef to Ridge Sprint Triathlon, also known as the R2R38, consists of a 750 meter swim at Paradise Beach Resort Green, Tandayag Amlan, a 25 kilometer bike from Tandayag to Valencia Town Park, and 12 kilometer run from Valencia Town park Bongbong Turn Point, then back to the same route to reach the finish line back at the starting point of Valencia Town Park.
The said R2R38 is just one of the prominent triathlon events in the province. Triathlon is booming in the Philippines and is now a common leisure activity and sport in the islands of Negros, particularly in the city of Dumaguete. The participants here are eager to show of their skills and abilities. Not just for their pride but also for their health. Other members are eager for the real competition while others are here to stay fit and healthy.
The triathlon event has three stages in the competition involving water and land. The three competitions are continuous events form namely swimming, cycling and running in long succession over various distances. The race varies in distance and is sometimes covered in an exact completion time requirement to determine the fastest athlete.
Sho Solon, a triathlete at the finish line
In an article published at the official website of Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP), triathlon is said to be a race that requires a participant to swim, bike, and run consecutively without breaks. Triathlon is now the famous growing sport in the world and now several events are also happening here in the Philippines.
Happy Solon family picture. Such a supportive family.
This sport is now in trend. And the estimated number of members here in the Philippines has already reached more than 3,000 and is still increasing. The organization would always encourage other people to join the fun every activity. They would advertise and they would make posters ahead of time. If you are a sport enthusiast, I would also encourage you to join this fun event if you have the time and mood for some exercise. At the same time you will really enjoy the race.
Here are some tips for you if you have a plan to join the next events:
