Valencia is considered a first class municipality in the Province of Negros Oriental and it is dubbed as the “Cleanest ND Greenest” town in Negros Oriental on 2007. It is also coined as the “Little Baguio” in the Visayas because of its cold weather since they are in the highlands.

A Brief History of Valencia

The original name of the town was ERMITA which means “an isolated place” because it had been the safe haven away from the oppressive Muslim pirates. During the early 1900s, the town’s name was changed to Luzuriaga in honor of representative of Negros Island in the Philippine Legislature, who swore that he would help improve the town, Don Carlos Luzuriaga.

Valencia is mainly an agricultural town, but a geothermal power plant is cradled in its comfort as well.

– This is most visited by tourists who love hiking and camping activities. It is erected at the foot of Mount Talinis and is known to be the place where the collaboration between Filipino Guerillas and American Troops against the Japanese Imperial Amity. – You may travel from Dumaguete to Valencia by any vehicle. But in going to the Japanese Shrine, you still have to go the distance by foot in order to reach the place. Once you are there, you can see the whole of Dumaguete City being filled with trees and infrastructures. Campers are allowed to stay overnight by using their personal outdoor tents.

Pulang Bato Falls (Red Rocks)

– Valencia has a lot of wonderful natural water works that will keep you coming back for more. During the summer, when it is so hot and humid, many tourists visit the water attractions of Valencia because of the cool water. Valencia is a nest for many beautiful waterfalls in the province.

– Pulang Bato Falls also known as Malabo Falls is located in one Barangay of Valencia named as Pulang Bato. It is named as such because the rocks beneath the waterfalls are reddish in color and this is particularly because of high sulfuric content. On the way to the falls, you can pass by the geothermal power plant that emits sulfur smell all over the place. Many people visits Pulang Bato falls because it is so beautiful and remained untouched up to this moment.

– This is the newest attraction in the locality. It was only a simple pool before getting its water source from a flowing spring. Now, it was developed into a more sophisticated resort which attracts many foreigners and locals. It is cheaper compared to other resorts as sophisticated as them.Valencia still has a lot to offer including the infamous Casaroro Falls, Forest Camp and Spanish Fountain.
