I don’t think naming names would be productive, although I am not against it. I’m sure the forum sheriff would lock up a few of us. My interpretation of a post may be different than the next person. Personally, I think some critics have a paradox. They want to be relevant but don’t have the substance to use their own subject matter so critically jump on the bones of another’s post.

Wife went out today. Many seniors in Lee Plaza and at Yan Yan and taking advantage of the senior lanes. Maybe there is more common sense being applied than thought.
Seniors are different yes. We have different needs too. How many have had their routine medical exams cancelled? I have had two so far.
We don't harm anyone, we use caution. I for one really don't like crowds and all of the pushing and jostling that is pretty common around here, so if that changes it is a plus for me. Most just like to get out once in a while, relax casually and maybe converse with other expat or simply have a beverage of choice, read a book or browse the internet. Just to know that life is still worth living.
We are not complaining or whining or making excuses like some insinuate. We just want to put some quality into our life too. And with absolutely zero positive tests in over 30 days, I would think it is pretty safe, since 30 days is well past the incubation period. Seems like any new cases would have to smuggled in.-

- Thread: PISA ranking Philippines
I find that the schools here are more into memorization as opposed to teaching their kids to think critically. The students can easily spout paragraphs verbatim yet not know what it is they are saying. I have also noticed that the teachers here place a lot of importance on their being “authority figures” and do not like their students to ask a lot of questions. Asking questions is impertinent and is not encouraged. My observations are, of course, based on just the two schools my son has been in.

Pizza / Italian: my vote is PASTA KING, Locsin at Santa Catalina, shouldn't vote on pizza tho, haven't been to Rolling Pin yet, maybe next week..
Best Eggs Benedict: ALIMA, followed closely by CASABLANCA.
Best in Sibulan? Was going to say AZALEA, but it's in San Jose on the way to Lake Balinsasayao, great views / quiet / ambience / good food
In general, ALIMA and ANDAMO, both new places run by local folks who have experience in the states, have some of the Best Tastes. The Pan-Seared fish at ALIMA is out of this world (as is the Asian Chicken Salad), around the corner behind the 7-11 slightly across from Silliman Med Cntr. ADAMO behind EA car wash (best car wash <grin>), National just north of Cangs.
Best Humba; GABBI'S on Rivero, also ESTRELLA'S, Zamora near Valencia Square and LANTAW
Best Schnitzel: CASABLANCA (& big enough to feed a family)
You also missed Best M*xic*n (or is that still a no-no?).. SENIORITA'S is so m*xic*n that when the waitress was asked if the owner was from the United States, she replied, "No Sir, he's from Texas.".....
Best Filet Mignon: haven't found it yet, agree with Jens,
Ribeye: maybe SALAYA.
AND FOR G**D'S SAKE, will someone teach restaurant staffs (and owners and managers) here that Appetizers come FIRST, followed 15 min later (or so) by the MAIN COURSES, SERVED TOGETHER, REPEAT, TOGETHER, REPEAT, TOGETHER...WHY is that so difficult, not 20 minutes apart... ??? (i know, picky, picky, picky)...
Thanks Irenicus-

- Thread: What brought you here?
I was working and living in Makati. Went through a divorce with an Asian/American wife. Decided to retire to minimise the divorce settlement. Then had a crazy relationship with a filipina trophy girl which drove me crazy. Decided to recover for a year diving at Apo but fate led me to meet my to-be wife/mountain girl while here and was smitten by the difference from a city girl and a simple mountain girl. And lived happily ever after.

So fiestas make me VERY uncomfortable, I stand out in (and above
) the crowd making it easy for anyone looking for a foreign target. Not that I'm really missing anything; if you've been to one fiesta you've been to them all.
As a contractor I had to worry about local nationals learning my schedule/times I would go out to the gate to do repairs on systems for the Afghan military/police so they could try something silly. I would always make sure the times and routes I took to the gate were completely random and I never called the gate guard "OIC" (a contracted Afghan civilian) in advance to let him know I was coming....no matter how many times he demanded it and then forced me to submit to a pat down and backscatter scan. I still practice that here as well as driving really fast or really slow (I avoid going with the flow of traffic) to know if anyone is following me as I don't want any locals to know where I live or to be taking notes on when I will be home or where I like to go.
Is all that overkill? Probably, but it soothes my paranoia and I haven't been killed or held up yet. I trust nobody but family....and there are even things I won't tell them.-
