Most are getting by with a little help from their friends. If you have a chance, be a friend. Anonymously of course for your own good.

The Corona virus detected in Cebu is not the same thing as Menneningo suspected in Dumaguete. Last I heard the corona virus detected in Cebu had not been verified as the type coming from China.

    Meningococcal disease
is an infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis. This bacterium can cause serious and sometimes fatal diseases including meningitis (infection of the brain lining) and meningococcal septicemia (infection of the blood).

“Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses ranging from the common cold to more serious infections such as MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV. Common signs of coronavirus infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties,”

When I was in the city I bought some disposable face masks as per the Mrs. request, 5 PHP each. There is a protocol for wearing the masks. If you show the white side outward it means you are healthy and just want to protect yourself. If you wear the blue side out it means you are ill.

I wear the blue side out for my own reasons 1) I'm a fashionista and 2) people getting in my space is annoying. LOL

No. The cost of having a helper is not 100 per hour but oftentimes 100 per day but you have to provide everything----food and living quarters. In Manila I think that rate is not also based on an hourly basis---that could be daily or weekly.

Buying food also needs some resourcefulness if you want to really save. You have to learn to cook simple food or go buy them from inexpensive eateries which we call "karinderya" where you could also get a full meal for only 40 pesos or even less. Houses for rent can go as low as 7 thousand depending on how big the house you want to have. If you get a pad (with CR, aircon, living room that doubles as bedroom, a little kitchen) you can have it for as low as 5 thousand a month. It all depends on your resourcefulness to find these budget-friendly places. If your wife or partner is a Filipina, she should be able to help you with these things.

I'm no expert, but in my limited experience there are a couple things in play. The average Filipino lives on a lot less than you do, so if you want to see all the savings trying living like they do. Most expats are not looking to do that. There are several threads on this forum about how much it costs to retire in the Philippines you may want to look at. In my experience, most manufactured products, cereal, cars, tools are more expensive, with the exception of some cheap Chinese knockoffs and medicines. The only thing that is significantly cheaper is human labor. I can get a guard or a driver for significantly less there than in the US. Most people probably compare where they are coming from to where they are going, so it's not a I'm in the cheapest place, but my annual spend is less than where I came from. Perspective makes a huge difference. The are also other criteria as you mention above.

I had a good experience with a solar company on the south highway but he has sense died and so did his company.
I signed a contract with "The Solar Guy" Jeff Davis in Jan. 2017 he quit our solar install in Jan. 2018 UNFINISHED! My wife and my handy man, with my assistance, finished the "Turn Key" install. Jeff is a very good sale person and also an even better lier.
He stated that: He had an experienced install crew, A Lie! His crew had all the tools and equipment to do the install. A Lie! He had a licensed electoral engineer. I did not check but should have ask to see his license. This electoral engineer could not understand why a mag. starter would not work. I immediately knew that it would not work because they installed it backwards and it was not needed in the first place. The last time they installed it backwards they did NOT tighten the hot wire from the solar panels and FRIED the mag. starter! Even after I ask Jeff three times about the roof leaking (a new roof) his reply was "that there would be no leeks". A Lie! The first good storm and we had water leaking through the ceiling in three places! This install should not have taken more than a couple of days. It was more than THIRTEEN MONTHS and that was only because we finish it ourselves!
My advice is to avoid Jeff Davis "The Solar Guy" like he was the Black Plague!

It is part of their culture. If there is a space occupy it. I have found it true in any type of line. Give space in the grocery store so people can move along the way while waiting in line and someone usually tries to take that space until you indicate the obvious, that we are all in this line. Look at how the cars drive, no space, because the reasoning is, if I give a car length someone will cut in. Happens all the time, I just politely inform the offender that the line begins behind the rest of us and they comply.

It's done in Bohol, Iloilo, Bacolod, Puerto Princessa last few years, moving the airport out of town. And those are just the airports I coincidentally know of.

The fact that there are more serious issues to take care of is totally irrelevant, thats whats so hard to see here. Its about making money, filling the pockets and for sure thats what is going to happen. Look at all the roads and bridges being rebuild up north, its crazy and for sure there is better use for that money. Just put some tarmac on those cement roads, lots of it was just made last five years after the quake.

But projects like that will all ways happen if there is money to be made for people in the 'right spot'.... So also with the bacong or antulang airport.... or wherever it will be.

I moved from Bacong to Valencia the third week of April and these folks did a great job. Nestor, the driver, (not sure of the name spelling), and Jim came to the house after we called them to discuss the move. We made plans and got the rates. They have a printed rate sheet. Nestor texted the day before the move to confirm. They came on time, carefully loaded my things, were serious and hard working. They made two trips and both times were very careful with my things and worked quickly. I would recommend them highly to anyone. They told me they have done moves to other islands some even overnight moves. Good Job and Thanks WEDO.

How hard is it to get through immigration? Give your passport, say "good evening, morning or afternoon" stamped , a thank you and then head to pick up your bags. Rarely do I even get asked how long my stay will be.

You seem to be a person who likes to be organized - and that is a good thing - but you need to lose that trait in The Philippines or you will become very frustrated.
