I was amazed to see an LTO check point today on the Hwy from Dmgte to Valencia. stopping M/C's for safety and noise violations. Then before lunch they moved it to just outside of Valencia. I was happy to see that they stopped and detained the guy who rides the green extra loud drag type M/C by my house several times a day and night.

 

"In a television interview last week, Mayor Ipe Remollo said that starting tomorrow till Friday, August 15 - 19, sidewalks painted green will be off-limits to motorcycles, pedicabs, 4-wheeled vehicles and vendors. The green sidewalks will solely be for pedestrians to walk on. This will be an "information dissemination week" and no fines will be charged yet.

Starting next Monday, August 22, violators will be penalized.

Let's observe and see if tinuod ba gyud ni!"


Note: It may be easier to find Pokeman than find a green sidewalk in Dumaguete but you will not miss them you see them. When the paint wears off you can park on them.
To help identify "pedestrians" it is suggest you wear green shirts so you are not run over by the locals.

I am a tough cookie when it comes to recommending people/businesses so for me to be posting this is a very positive thing,

I had a house on the market privately for a while there in Dauin, i had untold time wasters and nuisance interested people and around 4 sure buyers,,,,, the time came when i finally decided to change my luck and use a real estate agent recommended by a member here,

This guy went far and beyond his job title , he showed many people my property and gave the up most respect to me during the time he was marketing my property, his fees were very reasonable and he did everything he said he would do and in the time scales he said he would do them ,

I believe he is a member here, the guy i delt with was Gordon and i can highly recommend him for buying/selling/renting/management of property there in Dumaguete areas,

Highly trustworthy , had the sum of millions of pesos with not a glitch go through him,,, i cannot express my respect enough for this guy ,, honestly if you are doing anything with any property use his company if you want no headaches and straight honest dealings ,,,

If i am looking for property again buying/selling/renting i would not hesitate to use this guy,

got to be the best i have every come across in 10 years of being in the Philippines, this is no bull,,

If you read this Gord,, thanks again , i have no alteriour motives for this post it is genuinely giving praise where its due

OFF THE RECORD
When This Boat Crew Realized What They Were Seeing, It Was Almost Too Late To Escape Alive!

We might not realize it in front of our eyes, but the Earth is still changing all the time! It just happens so slowly that we can’t really perceive it. Every now and then, things speed up… a lot!

The crew of the Maiken was enjoying a leisurely sail through the South Pacific when they spotted a strange discoloration on the water. They moved in closer to inspect it, but by the time they realized what it was, it was too late…

The crew of the Maiken was sailing the South Pacific when they spotted an unusual shadow.


As they got closer, what they had taken to be a sandbar revealed itself to be something else entirely.


A huge amount of pumice stone was floating to the surface of the water. It looked like a beach.


They decided to get a closer look and redirected their yacht towards it.


It looks like a beach in the middle of the ocean!


The crew decided to sail through it, leaving a break in the stone behind them as they went.


They wondered what could have caused this expanse of stone to suddenly appear.


The field of pumice was getting even larger as they passed through it. The crew had an uneasy feeling and upped their speed.


Once they were a safe distance away, they heard a faint rumbling. Looking back they saw water bubbling from the surface.



The source of the pumice stone was an underwater volcano that was actually erupting at the time!


They anchored to watch this tremendous event. Massive plumes of smoke filled the sky.


As the smoke cleared, they noticed something strange just at the water’s surface….


It was land!


The stunned crew couldn’t believe what they were seeing: It was the actual birth of a new island.


They sailed a little bit closer to see if their eyes were playing tricks on them.


But it was real. The peaks of this new land mass were already taking form.


It was one of the rarest events imaginable.

Just happened to me a few hours ago. I was walking through Piapi at night on my way home (I was up early to grab something to eat before hitting up contacts in N. America). I felt a push from behind and my bag flew off from my shoulder. I then waved bye-bye to it at as it went away with the back-rider on the motorcycle.

Actually, a few seconds before waving bye-bye was a rush of oh-sh** inventory and an instant creation of a checklist for things to do when arriving home.

Luckily nothing was in it (I always carry my bag, even empty) which usually isn't the case. They carried off with like $8, some keys and my quickly deactivated debit card. The bag was new and cost $25. Silly me, I didn't have a back-up card, so the card is the biggest pain. I now have to coordinate WU / Xoom with people at home while I arrange something else.

Ultimately, this was probably a cheap call to take care of some stuff (have back-ups, make sure info is up to date on everything so that getting replacements is easy) and make sure to observe personal security.

Lessons...

• I should probably avoid walking at night when there isn't traffic. I hadn't been too worried about it until now, but I suppose it was only a matter of time before someone gave me problems.
• Walk facing oncoming traffic. I usually do this anyways because I get paranoid of someone swerving into the side and taking me out.
• At times, take a pedicab. I walk as a way to unwind my code brain and to get some blood moving. So, I don't want to stop completely. But it's probably good to take a pedicab outside of those cases (and maybe when I'm carrying something valuable.
• Carry only what I anticipate I'll need when I walk out the door. On a "break" walk, this should be nothing but some pocket change.
• Carry the bag with the straps going over both shoulders (as opposed to loosely hanging off one shoulder) and possibly even strapped at the waist (this bag had those straps.)
• Electronic devices need to be backed up, encrypted and setup with remote tools which may be helpful for disabling them, deleting data and tracking. I haven't looked much into some of this, but I'll be doing that now.
• Practice. Setup a random reminder which goes off maybe once a quarter which gives me a random scenario. For example, lost my wallet. Maybe lost everything in a flood. What would I do? Run through the steps as if this actually happened to make sure all systems work.
• Optional. Pull the golden cord on my privilege parachute. I could just exploit my unearned privilege in life and get a cushy tech job in an ivory tower in the heart of the empire. A place where people either work or flee leaving little room for poverty and the problems which come with that. Maybe a bad attitude on this one, but it's still an option.
• Just the opposite of the above option. Embrace it. I just paid my dip-sh** tax. That is, thieves making their living also. Lord knows that's just a drop in the ocean of money I have paid out to help others in this town. Some deserving, some not (some maybe even less deserving than these thieves.)
• Research for other tips and options.

Could have been worse. Keep your radar up.

Note: I didn't take this to the police station. Why bother? I also didn't even think to try to get any identifying info. The first thoughts to run through my head was to generate an inventory of what was in the bag.
