KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Hundreds of modified motorcycle mufflers were destroyed by the Kidapawan City government as it intensify campaign against noise polllution and illegal mufflers.

A road roller flattened the confiscated mufflers in a ceremony in front of the Kidapawan City hall Tuesday witnessed by Mayor Joseph Evangelista and other officials.

Rey Manar, head of Kidapawan City traffic unit, the assorted mufflers were seized during months of traffic law enforcement in the city.

Locally known as "Bora-bora" (open pipe mufflers) the mufflers were improvised to create noise while the motorbike is running the streets of the city.

The sound is very irritating to human ears.

Manar admitted there are still motorcycles with "bora-bora" roaming around the city but in due time they will be confiscated.

"At least with this confiscation, the noise pollution has been reduced," he said.

 

BEST LAWYER / INSURANCE STORY OF THE YEAR (TRUE STORY)

This actually took place in Charlotte , North Carolina .
A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then insured them against, among other things fire.

Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars, the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company.In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost 'in a series of small fires.'

The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason, that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.
The lawyer sued and WON!

Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held a policy from the company, in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered to be unacceptable 'fire' and was obligated to pay the claim.

Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his loss of the cigars that perished in the 'fires'.

NOW FOR THE BEST PART...

After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!! With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.

About an Hour ago I got the Confirmation that my Application for my 13 a has been approved and ready for
stamping and ACI card.
This has all taken place since the new system as of the 1st of June all in all in took 23 days from Start to finish.
For me it works.
The only draw back was that my hearing should have been on the 25th June but there was a health bug in Manila Immigration and 3 hearing commissioners were off sick so I was put back to July 2nd. This unfortunately put me over my allowed time by 5 days and was thus an over stayer, they will make me extend for one month and a fine of 500p but it's OK I have now got my 13 a back which they took off me for the 2010 cock up by the Spanish PI Embassy in Madrid. ( I was not told that they can longer do the annual report, I paid but it never found it's way to Manila) 2010 was a disaster if some remember on annual reporting. Followed by the 2011 local issue.
Anyway I am just at this time Confident that they have got things a little better sorted on 13a's

So Thursday I am off to get my stamp and things as they are now in Cebu.
Just a heads up for those that are going to apply. Things are better all round.
But again here, just a reminder to get that ARP done if you have been here over 6 months. All this fast track is due to having your ARP done. Do it now and it is Free, Do it After Sept 30th and it is $50

Every 3 months I have been providing progress reports to help others if they have a stroke or more importantly as a reminder for others to stay healthy so they don't get zapped.
Unfortunately, after making significant gains, I haven't made much progress the last three months. I was hoping to take the next step up where my balance would be better and my right side paralysis would greatly approve, but I guess my expectations were not realistic. At my neurologist visit two weeks ago, she told me I will probably only get back to 70% of my former self. I am not there so will continue walking and working out to go for that target and try and exceed it.
Besides eating fish and chicken 90% of the time, I have been taking virgin coconut oil, psyllium, and Biospray all with positive results. And of course blood thinners and cholesterol meds, and 2 glasses of red wine.
Suggestion to others is to get a blood test annually and closely monitor your blood pressure and cholesterol level.

 

Well, we are now back in Oz, well and truly permanently, and so happy to be so. What a great Country, I really missed it. Being away increased my already good appreciation. My years in Phil were very interesting and educational to say the least, and it was good to see the other side of the coin. I achieved my goal there, and that was to find the best Filipina available, which I did, and also to learn about the Country and Culture of my wife to better enhance our relationship and Marriage. All the best to you guys who are permanent there. Thanks to any and all on this Forum who offered information and assistance.

Given the latest foreigner death, I am warned of the seriousness of depression. If you find yourself in this condition, reach out to family or friends and, if necessary, seek medical help, and try and find an outlet or activity to pull you out of it. Keeping it all to yourself might be dangerous.
For me, being handicapped, can at times put me in a deep funk. I try and refuse my mind to go into that deep hole by talking with my wife about it, focusing on my boy, and walking and going to the gym as outlets. As some us know, alcohol is a depressant so I limit my intake. Life can good no matter what.

 

18 months after surviving a life-threatening stroke, I am not going to suggest to anyone what they could or should do to prevent having a stroke; there are many sites that can offer better advice than I can. All I will offer is, once again, you don't want to have one.
I am slowly making progress but still handicapped with my balance, control, use of my right hand, and cannot get up or down without help. On the plus side, I can now walk without a cane if I have someone walking with me in case I start wobbling or my bad (right) leg starts collapsing.
Working hard walking and at the gym helps fight off depression and keeping the never give up spirit and attitude.
Watching my son grow and having a beer with my friends is enjoyable therapy. Finally, my wife taking such excellent care of me is a real blessing. Life is good.
