    SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson announced today that a prior male sex offender was sentenced in court today for abusing five separate children in the Philippines.

    Kenneth Gaylord Stokes, 71, a U.S. citizen who resided near the city of Cebu in the Philippines, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool to 120 years in federal prison without parole.

    On Jan. 27, 2015, Stokes pleaded guilty to five counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places. Stokes was arrested at his Philippines residence on Dec. 3, 2012, and deported to the United States. He has been in federal custody without bond since his arrest. Stokes has a prior conviction for raping a 7-year-old child in the state of Washington.

    Been in the US for the past couple weeks and this place is absolutely f'n depressing. Smells like a big bag of @ss after it rains. Only jobs are crappy factory jobs (the cause for the bag of @ss smell, thanks papermill). Drug addicted skanks fill the only bar open past midnight (and they won't f'n share...because I'm a cop....yet they still want to fight and stir sh*t with me). Everyone I graduated with is either married with kids or a meth addict. If I was forced to live here I'd consider ending it all. F' this place! Flight to DC on the 10th, back in the Philippines on the 13th, Dumaguete on the 14-15th, couldn't be more excited about that. :shifty:

    Stupid is as......

    This week I ran into a "problem" that takes the cake.
    My wife wanted to book 3 rooms for two days at a resort in Camotes. The resort insists that the money be deposited into their account at BPI. I could have done that online from my Metrobank account. NO the cash had to be deposited at a BPI branch. The resort did not want to loss the 250 PHP cost of getting an incoming wire transfer.

    My wife doesn't feel like driving to town and spending 2 hours at BPI neither do I.

    The resort can forget the 17,000 pesos for rooms and whatever else our friends and I would have spent on food and drinks at their resort.

    Please don't try to speed up the Westernization/modernization of the Philippines. If you want to live in the West go back to the West. Some of us like the Philippines, with all its faults, the way it is. Also, most foreigners currently living in the Philippines wouldn't be able to afford to live in the Philippines if it developed enough to stop all the foreigner whinging. Most would have to move to another underdeveloped country...and then start complaining about how that country isn't developed enough, so they can start the process of shooting themselves in the other foot. Stupid is as stupid does.

    Thank you to all of our customers and friends that have been supporting our efforts.
    We just completed the process for our building permit for a restaurant in Valencia. It will be on Legarda right at the corner of West Balugo Road. That is 1.2 km north of the main Valencia Dumaguete highway on Legarda St. If you are on the main highway going toward Dumaguete from the Valencia Market, turn left at the road just past Neva's and go 1.2 km. The road on the left at that point is West Balugo. We will be on the far corner.
    It will probably take a couple of months, maybe a little more. It will only be a small place but will give us the space to be able to serve our friends and customers better and serve all our regular foods as hot meals. We have a few more standards of ours to add to the menu also, such as country fried steak, smoked pork shoulder bbq, fried chicken, etc., etc. Nothing fancy, just good quality simple food.
    It is called "Joy Bamboo Cafe".
    Here is a drawing of what the place will look like. Not exact, just an artists rendering. It's shady there so once we get open we will probably be adding a couple places to sit in the yard too.

    Back on topic, why do expats love Dumaguete, I don't think there are many of us who actually "love" Dumaguete. We appreciate that it is a lower cost of living than our homelands, the weather pretty nice overall, and the two legged deer are plentiful and attractive and willing to accept mature men as long as you can provide (and everything provide implies).
    For many here, there is a thin line between a comedy and a tragedy.

    There is a recent addition to the dentists in town. Dr. Julie Flor Cordeta, Premier Dental Care Solution. I read about her on the forum and decided to see her since I had a tooth ache that keep me up occasionally. She is located across from the Phoenix gas station south of the mall. I do not make many recommendations on the forum but I would recommend her, after three visits and being very comfortable with her performance:

    First appointment was a meet and greet with a review of my dental situation and recommendations with costs: no charge

    Second appointment was to clean and fill a cavity, in my mouth: 500 P cleaning, 500 P for cavity. (No more tooth pain).

    Third appointment visit was for second cavity and root canal: This one was more interesting as after starting the cavity repair, after taking an x-ray, said she may not have to do the root canal if the cavity did not get too close to the nerve... The cavity was 500 P inclusive of x-ray, and the root canal was 4500 P but she did not have to do the root canal. I walked out with no pain in my mouth or wallet.

    I have been impressed by her thorough explanations of procedures and pleasant “chair side” manner. I have no more tooth ache. My mouth feels good, there was very little pain during the processes, and I still have pesos in my pocket for a couple of good meals.

    Since she is new, so is her office, and very modern looking to a layman like myself. I was impressed again with a device she put in my mouth that was a camera and an image of what she was going to do, the cavities were displayed on a TV monitor on the wall in front of me, as well as the mentioned x-ray and an explanation of services. I am confident in the services I received from her.

    Note: this is the fourth dentist I have used in town: First charged me extremely high skin tax but was recommended by my Filipino Landlord. Second: tried a switch and bait scheme on me. Third: lost my records after charging me for a preliminary exam. Four did a bridge, he has moved and the bridge does not always feel right.
