Check out marriage in New Zealand. I (US citizen) married my Filipina wife there last summer. We did the application ahead of time, then picked up the license on day 2 after arrival, then got married on day 3 and registered it day 4. The office in Auckland is really nice. It's pretty easy: only needed our passports and my divorce certificate from my prior marriage. You can even choose to get married there at the office, but we enjoyed our beach wedding.![]()

DI was created by "foreigners" mainly to help "foreigners" adapt to living in Dumaguete and the Philippines and to voice their thoughts and opinions on the local culture. While we more than welcome locals to join and add their opinions/advice/questions/etc, they must remember the objective of this forum, who it was created by and who it is meant to cater to. In a way it is them that are guests on this website - and basically anywhere online - and the prominent culture here is internet culture, not Filipino culture. If they cannot handle criticism and have thin skin/sensitive egos then this website - and the vast majority of websites online - is probably not the place for them to be. This forum, just like 99.9% of the internet, does not reside in their country and does not have to abide by their cultural norms or country's laws. We discuss their cultural norms here, sure, but their culture simply does not apply.-

For anyone who is driving to Cebu, The Maayo ferry added an early morning service yesterday. It leaves at 4:30 am and unloads on the Cebu side just as dawn is breaking. That meant I got a great ride as far as CarCar with next to nothing on the road as far as traffic. Breakfast at MacDonalds in CarCar at 7:45 and then traffic from CarCar to the city, but the trafffic was moving at a good speed so still a great trip.
I don't know how long Maayo will keep that 4:30 am trip operating. Not many on it yesterday.-

What is a dashboard camera?
A dash cam is a video camera mounted in a vehicle. Most dash cams record both audio and video continuously. These cameras are sometimes called Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) or In Car Cameras. The vast majority of dash cams are actually mounted on the windshield not on the dash. Most of the cameras are forward facing but some dual lens cameras (front and back) are gaining popularity as well.
There are 2 features that differentiate a dash cam from a traditional video camera:
- Auto start and auto stop. A dash camera must have the ability to start recording when it receives power and stop recording when power is removed. This is typically done via the cars cigarette lighter power adapter but it could be hard wired.
- Continuous looping / cycle function. A dash camera must have the ability to delete the oldest file and continue recording when the memory card fills up

Mark, if you are going to buy 2 + hectares of land, you can consider checking out Bacong. Land is cheaper than most places and lots available up the hill. Going to Dumaguete from the south is arguably faster and less hassle than from the north. One of the downsides, however, is night time driving. Too many bikes and vehicles without lights.
