Seems that guy has not traveled and visited many places in the world..... EVERY country has problems and annoyances but as others have said it depends on your attitude. I don't deny there are some serious annoyances here but after spending over 4 years in China I am happy to be here and am doing my best to deal with them and live with the people here. I too am very fortunate in having a fantastic Filipina wife that is the joy of my life. Some of these things frustrate her as much as me but we are happy and learn to laugh and get over it. Live and Learn!

I wondered if it was herpes (Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)) - that little bugger hides in nerve endings (latent) and then emerges during stressful events (as you say) - and "stress" is not just a psychological thing. This why cold sores develop many years after the original infection (which, from memory, I think has to be before age 5) and the same for shingles (but that is from Varicella-Zoster (chickenpox) and not HSV).

I assume the antibiotics are to stop secondary bacterial infection because they will not stop the herpes.

Your doctor may have informed you of this, but I note (https://www.healthline.com/health/eye-herpes#treatment) there are two forms of herpes infection of the eye and both can be treated with antivirals:

    Epithelial keratitis treatment
HSV in the surface layer of the cornea usually subsides on its own within a few weeks.

If you promptly take antiviral medication, it can help minimize cornea damage and vision loss. Your doctor will recommend antiviral eye drops or ointment or oral antiviral drugs.

A common treatment is the oral medication acyclovir (Zovirax). Acyclovir may be a good treatment option because it doesn’t come with some of the potential side effects of the eye drops, such as watery eyes or itching.

Your doctor may also gently brush the surface of your cornea with a cotton swab after applying numbing drops to remove diseased cells. This procedure is known as debridement.

    Stromal keratitis treatment
This type of HSV attacks the deeper middle layers of the cornea, called the stroma. Stromal keratitis is more likely to result in corneal scarring and loss of vision.

In addition to antiviral therapy, taking steroid (anti-inflammatory) eye drops helps reduce swelling in the stroma.

Don't think it's ever too late. In 2015, at ages 72 and 62, we bailed out of california, got rid of 95% of our crap (kept one tie and one blazer (never wear) and kitchen utensils). The 95% included two cars, our library except for 20 books, all furniture. Researched the world, decided on Dumaguete, visited for a month and in July 2016, moved here permanently and brought along the puppy, only got one car. I think we got out at the right time, that place is a mess. Takes a bit to adjust but it's worth it. Only regret is not keeping more kitchen stuff.

I agree there are few "bad" dogs, but unfortunately too many bad owners.

I am a huge fan of Belgian Malinois and have posted many times about their attributes and why we love ours so much. With that said, they are a demanding breed that needs exercise and time with their family; we would never allow one to go to a first time dog owner. Both our girls had 2 litters so they are "retired" from breeding. Our big boy is still up for stud though.

Huskies are interesting...we have one and unfortunately lost one a couple years ago to an open gate. I personally find them aloof and for the first year or so remind me of a cat in their attitude. After that they are really sweet and are a pleasure to listen to as they try to "talk" to you.

Much respect always for responsible pet owners!

    Shawn

so dear GZ. may i offer a different perspective please. you and i are composed of about one hundred trillion cells. we are each host to around one hundred trillion (much smaller) bacteria and also to around one thousand trillion (even smaller) viruses. some bacteria live on our surface, some inside, some are symbiotic, some just want in out of the rain. a virus is sort of the transexual in this microsopic world (do they or don't they, can they or not)

we have all developed together over a million plus years. "modern" scientific medicine has existed barely more than a hundred years. can we really be so impressed with the human brain to think that after a million plus years we have developed the ability to understand nature and even more the ability to manipulate it?

i agree that we have learned to head off some threats for the benefit of that/those individual(s), but what does that have to do with the adaptive nature of our species? nothing except perhaps in some teeny tiny way to marginalize it a bit

go outside tonight and count the stars. each is a sun, many with their own planets. the biggest contribution of the hubble telescope was to quadruple the number of known stars. the universe just goes on and on. we are less than one virus on the body of the universe.

the apparent fact that so many people will submit their lives to the opinions of "scientist" dr fauci is as laughable to me as submitting to stumpy the pig farmer. its ludicris. if you want to vaccinate and try to live a little longer, fine. just remember that the universe does not even know you exist.

your own body is the miracle here. your body has processes to deal with bacteria and virus(es?) and yeast and falling trees. let it do its work. if i die its not a tragedy. someone else will replace my drivel here! collectively our adaptations provide the greatist protection for us all, and more importantly for the future of our species.

Sir a bit of advice. You have made the Police and the PDEA lose face twice and also the City Prosecutor, these facts alone do not lead to a long life here, never mind my opinion..

I think the mall was built for the people of bayawan and look at the jobs it will create there!
Eventually foreigners will start to get fed up of dumaguete and the traffic and pollution and look at other areas. Bayawan has some good projects going on and still has the best boulavard around here even though it could do with a few more restos.
