I've had Starlink for about 9 months now and gradually expanded the set-up.
The kit is P28k but the ethernet adaptor to allow a 3rd party router is only P3200. So now I have a full mesh set-up (3 routers) to cover the whole house without blind spots, and a 3rd party router to extend coverage to our other house next door and to the gate 80m+ away. So I have coverage anywhere on our plot. On Christams eve we had 30+ guests, most on wifi and no issues. Total downtime runs at about 1-2 minutes per month and speed is consistantly averaging 200Mbps - occasionally down to 80 but also has hit over 300.

Initial outlay is expensive yes but it's still only P2700/month for a totally unlimited, reliable and consistant system.

Thanks Elon is all I have to say.

For our new place, we used Eric Tanamor, DataConstruction Inc.. 09177289599, dataconstruction.inc@gmail.com..
Worked for a big company, decided he could do better on his own, he was right... Great service, tech knowledge, great follow-up...

I would not call the Philippines the land of the stupid, sounds insulting. Granted the IQ in the
Philippines is in the 80's; however, that number represents half the people with an IQ that is lower than that and half the people with an IQ higher than that (the mean not the average). I would guess that those with the higher IQ would be close to the average of most western countries. Keeping in mind countries like Korea, Japan, Singapore and some other Asian countries have IQ's higher than western countries, it comes down to quality education and countries that can afford to pay for that. Philippines is obviously a very poor country and has not been able to put the necessary focus on education. Public education is poor at best but some private schools and universities provide an adequate education, for the few who can afford to attend. Slowly, improvements are being made. For example, 12 years of high school rather than 10, and computers in some schools. Hope is those here with the higher IQ's will assist in improving the economics and education in the Philippines so over time education will be much better than today.

That isn't how it works here. You provide the links, sites, etc., to support your statements. After all, you should know how to find this much quicker than we should, right? Please don't talk about fear because better understanding makes better decisions - we all make our own decisions, and need no lectures about emotions - we need facts.

I think the losing weight thing when arriving here seems to be normal. I've lost 16lbs (7.25748 kg according to Google) by doing nothing. I've walked around a bit more here since arriving, particularly in the first couple of months before buying a vehicle. I was shocked when I got on the scales for the first time after about three months here, although I had read on a blog from another westerner who mentioned similar weight loss in three months here. I now seem to be able to eat what I like without adding back the weight, but Heaven knows how that's affecting my blood circulatory system. My BP has also gone down though about -20/10 points, so considering reducing my medication. Starting to exercise now with 3kms jogging/walking most days and never felt better (which makes it all the more frustrating being informed that I'm vulnerable and should stay at home and not go whale watching in Bais. I think all the obese politicians should stay home instead).

I've had similar comments to Rye's, with one niece who's not on particularly good terms with my wife describing me as the husband like a rake. I can live with that.

Has anyone else experienced similar weight loss on moving here?

Great debate this one by the way, with some brilliant contributions.

Is there a link to case law on this one? (I clicked the link but I don't see any legal opinions cited.) If this is the case then those of us on tourist visas, as opposed to marriage/quota visas, are at a significant advantage when it comes to freedom of speech.

    From the link:
Can you define "corporation" under Philippine law. In the US churches are technically "corporations" but businesses under a sole proprietorship would not qualify as a corporation. Are public figures/politicians/political speech held to a lessor standard/higher burden of proof than the rest of the population as it is in the US under Philippine law?

Also, I have read many sources and rulings that state that the truth is generally NOT a defense against defamation here. Any case law stating the opposite would be greatly appreciated. A Supreme Court ruling stating that the truth is a defense would definitely change my thoughts and opinions on the subject on this forum. If you have these sources please post them. I would really love to change my stance on this topic if the evidence and legitimate/authoritative opinions back these claims.

Almost correct Philpots...it’s more a neurodevelopmental disorder. More correctly known as a Specific Reading Disorder the suggestion is that this can ‘mature’ out or at least improve under training approaches/tech aids. It’s a spectrum disorder so you can have anything from a little to a lot. Generally the definition of severe disability begins on the 5th centile and below. Like many of the developmental disorders (think ADHD/Autism/Dyspraxia etc) it can persist across the lifespan.

Assessment should consist of psychometric profiling via the Wechsler or for the younger the WIPSY - subscales should pinpoint the specific problem - but necessarily this should be undertaken by a properly qualified Educational Psychologist.

I liked the bit about language. Schools are language based competency environments and so for those with severe language based skills deficits in their makeup schools sometimes become incredibly stressful for kids. The trick here is to spot it early, not fall into the trap of calling kids lazy or unmotivated, provide adequate support and if the disorder is particularly severe not get hung up on performance/achievement. People generally compensate with another skill instead - usually something practical and not language based. Praise ‘em up there n things should go swimmingly.
