A handshake would be the best way to show friendship to someone you meet for the first time. It should go with the "hi" and "hello" greetings and the rule says it should be the woman who extends her hand first. However, as women in the Philippines are a bit modest (in general), you may need to extend your hand first. Between gentlemen, any of the two can both show the willingness for friendship with a handshake.
Go ahead. Shake hands with everyone. It is a gesture of friendship.

- Thread: Looking for Cardiologist
My wife's father was recently treated at Silliman for a mild stroke and Dr. Denura was brought in for a cardiac consultation. I felt she was okay as a cardiac doc, but I did not like her personally at all. She walks into the room like a queen and expects everyone to stop what they are doing, get out of her way and be quiet when she enters. When she ordered that a colonoscopy be done, I was in the room and asked very politely and respectfully if she could explain her thinking about why she saw a need for that test ... she brusquely replied to me, "and where did you get your medical degree from sir".

- Thread: The annual dining survey (huh?)
I concede. I do have 3 favorites here.
My house Friday dinner with wine
My house Saturday dinner with wine
My house Sunday dinner with wine
(The king of all were the rib eye dinners Shawn brought me from Korea. Thank you again Shawn)-

- Thread: Stroke Warning Signs
3 1/2 yrs ago today I had that stroke. It was a surreal feeling when it happened. Fortunately. SMC had the equipment, medication, and knowledge to pull me through.
Today, my improvement (trying to get back to normal) seems to be leveling off. Maybe overall I am 2/3 back. This week I shaved myself for the first time since the stroke (using my left hand - I am right handed but that hand has about 75% paralysis still), 2 weeks ago I walked to the CR by myself for the first time. Normally, I need someone on my right side when walking. Small victories but you take what you can get. My voice is about 80% normal so I am lucky about that. I walk the boulevard walkway and go to the gym 5 times a week. My B-I-L is my driver and helps navigate me around the gym. The problem I have is sitting down and getting up by myself.
My stroke was caused by a hereditary high cholesterol problem and I foolishly stopped taking Lipitor (expensive here) and my blood pressure went high during a stressful period. Plus no doctor checkup got 8 years (thinking I exercise, don't smoke, not overweight so must be healthy - WRONG),
So maybe others here can learn from my mistake and get a blood test.-

I recently asked my neighbors’ little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, are liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, ‘If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?’
She replied, ‘I’d give food and houses to all the homeless people.’
’Wow…what a worthy goal.’ I told her, ‘But you don’t have to wait until you’re President to do that! You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I’ll pay you $50. Then I’ll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.‘
She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, ’ Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50? ‘
Maybe she should be our next president.-
