The problem isn't them poles, or any other type of maintenance, the problem is that there's no redundancy in their grid.
The reason you don't see these regular blackouts in most other countries is not that there's no maintenance needed there (although having all non - high voltage grid lines underground obviously diminishes the need for maintenance to a great extent), but rather that there's redundant circuits. If one section of the grid needs to be shut down, then the redundant circuit takes over for all other areas, so almost no customers will be affected.

- Thread: Burned by a Filipina
Personally never been burned by a Filipina. A couple times my own actions caused some pretty severe burns. I have heard a lot of guys talk as if they have done no wrong to their girls and claim they were burned...but I've seen those same guys acting like complete pricks after a couple drinks. Most get back what they are dishing out.

Ok, then allow foreigners to buy land in the Philippines in the same way that Filipinos are free to buy land in most foreign countries - that is reciprocity!-

- Thread: I'm sorry
I tease my daughter about going to the Goodwill to get her jeans with holes for a lot cheaper than the premium paid to pay someone to make them look like that. Doesn't really bother me and I find it being worn by younger woman in casual settings. It seems to me, in the big scheme of things this and brown hair color are not that big of a deal. Now blue or purple hair might be a different deal. We all have different tolerances for this type of stuff. Other examples, include tattoos and piercings. I've heard people say when I married you, you were skinny, now your fat. The question becomes should one partner live to satisfy the other or should one partner accept their other partners choices because a person is so much more than what you see.

- Thread: The intolerance of "charging" for charging laptop and smartphone in coffee shops in Dumaguete
As always it's a matter of supply and demand - if you don't want to pay for their electricity, you don't have to buy it, just charge your stuff at home. In case of emergency PHP 10 is still a small price to pay for the convenience vs. going back home... I also guess they don't really do that for earning money, but to prevent people from taking up a whole table for hours while sipping a single coffee for PHP 80 or so. If you're a small place with just a few tables, a few laptop workers that occupy all your seating space while not consuming much can quickly hurt your business.
I could be considered what you call "Digital Nomad" and as such, I do not rely on power outlets in coffee shops as a rule. I come with a charged notebook that lasts more hours than I care to work in a single day, and can even charge my phone from that if need be. Having that said I wouldn't be sad either if the local coffee shops finally would get some competition from Starbucks
While their coffee is prohibitively expensive, I've yet to see one where they charge for electricity...

Yes, this forum will guide you greatly. It takes a while to get to know the complex city layout and thus the location of stores you may need - and where to find certain items. So fire away and people here will help you.-
