Hi, if what i hear is true the black pearl is about to open again, ill leave it to the new owner to tell his story. Starting from Robinson,s heading towards Bacong their is 11 foreign owned places to eat and drink before the city limits , how many is enough and how many think they can survive ,as i see it the person that owns the building is the one making the money and if i owned such a sight i would lease to an expat and sit back and watch him work 14 hours a day in order to make ends meet.

My fiancee and I finally got our small food place up and running in Bacong as there seems to be a lack of food choices for those of us out here who want something but don't want to run into the city. Its only a small place and we have only been open a week but our menu will be growing. We also have free wifi.

Menu to date: Fajita wrap, Taco wrap, filipino burger, burger deluxe, fries (flavor options), halo-halo (our own nice halo2x, not any of that nasty bean crap and ube, its *different*), and of course soda's. We are looking to hopefully add Red Horse and San Mig as soon as I can talk Ecil into letting me get another ref. Hopefully as well within the next week or two our menu will grow a bit more.

Location: Go past the park from Dumaguete 3 streets and turn right (Leon Kilat st opposite side of the highway from the beach). Down the corner 2 blocks and will see our place on the right.

If your in the area and hungry stop by and give is a try. Open 10am-8pm

    Chris and Ecil

Had the pleasure of taking a trip here recently. Started off badly as at the airport, there was SUPPOSED to be a van to take us on the 5 hour trip from the airport to El Nido. Regardless of what they tell you, they dont leave until the van is full, about 5:30 in the evening. We spent some hours at the airport listening to the lies. After that, everything went well. The hotel was clean, reasonably priced, and the staff very friendly. There are tours listed as A, B, and C. Due to the weather we did not get C. I would recommend as tour A to take a boat called Island Nica I believe. The boat is what I think is called a pump boat, but the guide was funny, very knowledgeable and the tour was fantastic. They park the boat for lunch ( they are cooking on the back during the tour) at one of the islands and puts out a feast that astounds you. All total, less my drinking, was maybe $1,500 from Dumaguete round trip, 5 days and four nights. Some of the most beautiful islands, hidden coves, caves and such that I have ever seen.

When Gandhi was studying law at the University College of London, there was a professor, whose last name was Peters, who felt animosity for Gandhi, and because Gandhi never lowered his head towards him, their "arguments" were very common.

One day, Mr. Peters was having lunch at the dining room of the University and Gandhi came along with his tray and sat next to the professor. The professor, in his arrogance, said, "Mr Gandhi: you do not understand... a pig and a bird do not sit together to eat ", to which Gandhi replies, "You do not worry professor, I'll fly away ", and he went and sat at another table.

Mr. Peters, green of rage, decides to take revenge on the next test, but Gandhi responds brilliantly to all questions. Then, Mr. Peters asked him the following question, "Mr Gandhi, if you are walking down the street and find a package, and within it there is a bag of wisdom and another bag with a lot of money; which one will you take?"
Without hesitating, Gandhi responded, "the one with the money, of course".
Mr. Peters, smiling, said, "I, in your place, would have taken the wisdom,
    don't you think?"
"Each one takes what one doesn't have", responded Gandhi indifferently.

Mr. Peters, already hysteric, writes on the exam sheet the word "idiot" and gives it to Gandhi. Gandhi takes the exam sheet and sits down. A few minutes later, Gandhi goes to the professor and says, "Mr. Peters, you signed the sheet, but you did not give me the grade."

Stayed at this resort about a week ago for a night. It's a good place to go and just relax. I stayed there with my gf, her sister and her sister's husband. Two rooms + lots of alcohol + dinner for 4 + my breakfast = P4800

The resort was well maintained and clean. Rooms were nice and had air-conditioning and cable. The kitchen wasn't stocked because it was low season but the owner went to town to get what was needed to make us dinner.

The beach area was clean as well. If you look on Agoda the place only had 2 stars but I would have given it 3.5-4 stars (as an expat living in the Philippines, not as a tourist).

If you go there is no sense in taking a laptop. There was no WiFi at the resort (which is why I went through the "lots of alcohol" above). The owner said that he had a USB WiFi of some sorts that i could borrow but another guest was using it at the time...and I was pretty drunk by the time it was free. The cell phone coverage with Smart is absolute sh*t as well. My gf's Globe sim faired much better though.

Overall, I liked the place and consider it a nice place to get away and relax. A tourist might not consider it a good place because of the remoteness and lack of reliable internet connection though.

Well all of you good folk out there I must tell you that last Wednesday The Freak nearly ended his pitiful life, but thanks to a smart arse foreigner he is still with us.
I (The Freak that is)was sitting at the bar at Flip Flops gazing into my glass of beer when this foreigner built like a country sh*t house, and covered in tattoo`s sat down next to me, picked up my glass of beer and drank the whole lot, then slammed the glass onto the bar and glared at me, whilst snarling in my face.
As soon as it dawned on me of what happened I started to cry like a baby, (yes folks you are hearing right) and in between sobs I asked him ,why did he drink my beer?
He replied that he was looking for a fight, and decided to pick one with me, but he was taken back when I burst out in tears, and he told me to be a man and to stick up for my rights.
By this time I was a blubbering mess, but I was able to control myself for a minute, and I said to him, hey "moving pictures" I will tell you why I am crying.

It all started this morning when I woke up only to find a note addressed to me on my pillow from my missus.
It read .... my dear Freak(That`s me) after fifteen years of living with you, and getting nowhere fast I have decided to leave you for another.
OK I thought, but reading further on she said that she was leaving me ..... wait for it, she was leaving me for a bloody SHEMALE, and then she went on to say that she swings both ways ( not that I ever knew) and that she was getting both male, and female for the price of one.
After I calmed down from the shock, I went to the fridge to crack a tinny, but no bloody beer, she cleaned all of the food out, beer and all.
So I walked outside to make a phone call for a home delivery of grog, and just when I thought that things could not get any worst I found my dog stone dead in the driveway, poisoned. (the b*tch always hated him)
After burying my dog whom I loved so much I went back inside to send an email to my mate in Australia to tell him what had happened, but he had already sent an email to me informing me that he finally went to the doctors to ask about the pain he has had in his stomach for the past few months.
He was omitted straight into hospital, and the doctor opened him up, to find he was riddled with cancer, so he stitched him up again and sent him home, with just a few weeks to live.
By this time I was a mess, my whole life was in shatters and I did now where to turn, I lost a wife, a mate, my dog, and my beer all in one day...there was no future for me because it was then that I checked where I kept my wallet, and passport, to discover everything was gone, even my ATM card that she knows the password of as I had a weak moment one day when I was under the influence and she got it out of me. (Yes I know)

As luck happened I had a few peso`s in my pocket, so I got into my car to drive it here at Flip Flops ,and on the way in this crazy idiot came out of now where and side swiped me.
My car was undriveable, and that was the straw that broke the camels back.
So I left my car on the roadway, ignoring the screaming arsehole who was demanding money from me, for him, and his family, and walked the rest of the way to Flip Flops, and ordered the beer that you drank sir, when you came in looking for a fight.
I was staring into that glass of beer, waiting for the suicide pill to dissolve that I placed into it so as I could end my miserable life, but thanks to you it was the only pill I had and that is why I became a blubbering mess when you drank my beer, because now I have nothing left except an ongoing life of misery. .........
But have a good day sir.

To All, my wife didnt know how to use DI, i tried to tell her from the hospital bed to post for some help but she tried her best to Post.

Now that Im back heres the jist of the story,

For all those that didnt know, almost a week back I was intentionally struck from behind with a glass bottle cutting open my head - i also damaged my left shoulder, and re-opened an infectious sore on my right leg. I dont remember much what happened after that but I was taken to Siliman via ambulance for a CT Scan, Chest Xray and Shoulder Xray, and to get my head sutured up.. LUCKILY all of the scans turned out OK however a blood test showed a dangerously low platelet and rbc level due to loss of blood and also multiple infections raging throughout me. My platelets continued to drop and the Drs scratched their heads, came up with 2 possible diagnosis... either it was due to the loss of blood and an infection raging throughout me, or because I had a sore body/sore joints and was running a high fever they suggested a high potential of Denge Fever... I was in really bad shape, amnesia of many past events, confusion, vommitting, etc..it was terrible. After awhile my levels started climbing but then dropped again.. Instead of paying for tests, expensive meds, etc, they pumped me full of their strongest antibiotics, gave me a perscreption and I opted to be sent home after my vitals were stable and I was on my feet. Also to self monitor with my local lab..lets pray things get better for me. Thank you all who did get the message about possibly donating blood, and especially to the gentlemen who actually came and visited me at Siliman to see how I was doing. I did not catch his name, as I was completely not there but it meant a lot to know this forum can provide support to those in need.

Love you all, and pray for me please

I travel here in Duma always by pedicab...And on numerous occasions have had people in the front of the cab move out to the side..... so I could ride up front...It seems as though because I am an American .. they want to show me respect for some reason ... and I am very moved when they do that ... as... I do not feel I am more special than they...So when it does happen I pay there fare in respect back to them...

Well sort of.... A new French Food Restaurant in Bacong, about 30 meters short of the 7 Km marker on the South Highway. Takkris Road Shack... hmmm... not an elegant French sounding name but the food was excellent. A small little informal

place with a large porch like structure facing the hiway. It was a new pleasant surprise recommended to me by a French Couple living in the Bacong Area. The menu includes Pates, Salads, Meat dishes,Sandwiches and Desserts. A rather informal mix of food but just plain excellent tasting stuff. We had both a Pasta dish and Pate sandwich. Light meals but just lite up my taste buds, and of coarse close to my home in Bacong. Our meal was just 240 for two including soft drinks. If you are heading south on the highway it is worth trying for the food. Just look for the yellow marker signs and follow your way to the 7 Km marker, the restaurant is about 35 meters south of marker.
