I know I wrote about "infected" persons - do you not get the point that an "asymptomatic carrier" is also an 'infected person'?
I would not give advice to people to wear a mask only if they 'know' they are asymptomatic as they won't know they are!
Your main point was that a mask provides no protection to the wearer - you cannot be talking here of infected people as achieving "no protection" is a bit late in their case! You must be talking about people who are probably not already infected - so these are the people who should ALSO have been wearing a mask. I don't care what experts have spent months saying as more and more countries day by day are increasing the use of masks. In the analysis of this disease they will recognise their grave errors. It has taken 'experts' months to recognise this and cost thousands of lives.
You now say that everyone should be wearing a mask in case they are infected (with or without symptoms) and I agree - but to say a mask has no protective value to the wearer is wrong and is what I pointed out to you.
Also, you wrote on your original post that "any form of cloth" will impede the distance the virus can travel from the infected person. I agree - so why is "any form of cloth" (your words) able to do that but not impede the virus entry INTO a person? Does not make sense. If you read my post above to Mr Poppy, you will read about the force exerted on the virus particles when leaving the mouth as opposed to entering it - that is why wearing a mask may (nothing is certain) stop most, or all, virus particles coughed out by person A entering person B. At present, most of us here are Person B (not infected and not wanting to be).
And, finally, you say concerning masks "That is also what COMPETENT authorities tell us." I feel the word "competent" (in upper case!) is a dig at me (water off a duck's back) but I am pleased for you and others here in the Philippines that we are not in our scientifically-advanced countries, full of scientific advice and competency, where people are dying in their thousands. P.S. Don't forget to add the WHO (not the rock group!) to your list of COMPETENT authorities - they have been an absolute gem!

- Thread: Land / house prices
From what I’ve heard while I was scouting for properties to buy last year, Ajong Sibulan is a real estate nightmare. The location is awesome if you are in the market for a fantastic view. The higher you get, the view of Cebu island gets even better. Now the problem. Ajong is a major quarry site and has been for years that landslides have become a major issue. A bit of rain, and you find yourself unable to pass the only access road you’ve got because of rockfalls etc. A fault line was also discovered in the Ajong river that put forth questions on the stability of the surrounding areas. Not a lot of people know this except for the Ajong locals, government officials and geologists who did the study, but all this impacted on the land value of Ajong. A major real estate developer paid a lot of money to purchase huge tracts of land in Upper Ajong (unreal, fantastic views!) with the idea to build a residential development that catered primarily to expats. Of course, the developer bought the land before the fault line was discovered. Now I heard, they’ve been having a hard time selling each parcel of land. Each parcel of land comes with a brand new house and is being sold for about Php 8 million each. They have lowered the price to 7.4m now. The ones who bought were the ones who clearly had zero idea what the value of Ajong costs these days. The land is dirt cheap especially in Upper Ajong. I know a lot of people who have been trying for years to sell their property there with no luck. Some have just kept it after trying for years, waiting it out and just hoping the land will go back up. The more ruthless realtors won’t tell you the truth about Ajong, it’s all about the commission after all. The more honest ones will tell you and give you other options than Ajong.
I am telling you this because I was one of those tempted. The views were just insanely gorgeous.-

- Thread: Philhealth for an expat?
In duma hosp writing this.Dont bother with Philhealth Ins as of june 2017.I have been a huge fan of Philhealth for years and have benefitted greatly having been in hosp 2x for kidney stones once in 2013 and again in 2016.I was amazed at 2400p yearly premium and in 2 shortish hosp stays Philhealth paid together over 35000p of my hospital bills...fantastic value indeed!Well sadly all has changed drastically and imho is no longer worth bothering with.Premiums now 18000p yearly which still sounds very cheap right?Except now instead of paying a percentage of your bill they have "Case Rates"...X pesos per condition per hospitalization....and the new case rates are VERY low. IE...I am currently in hospital for a moderate heart attack..current bill sitting at approx 150k...Case Rate is max 18900p.Was a great deal before...now I think just putting aside a rainy day fund of 1500p a month is a wiser choice and every healthy year u have you are even further ahead.Just my recent experience and I know I will not be opting for the new premium and case rate system once I get out of hospital. Good health all

Never forget that life is cheap in the Philippines. The powers that be don't worry, they have a never ending supply of Filipinos and can't possibly run out so 1,000 or 30,000 doesn't really matter, unless the powers that be are included in the number. Of course it's unlikely they will be as they will probably send there family off for a visit while they stay because they can't abdicate their lucrative position. In some quarters, an epidemic may be seen as an opportunity for profit. Experience has taught them to look for profit in tragedy.

They have money.....and more of it probably goes towards the actual construction material and not into the pockets of crooked politicians/construction companies. (I'm sure they have plenty of that but.....take a ride down any newly concreted highway here and you'll see, no, you'll feel, how it little of the money actually goes towards construction.)

I assumed he was drunk because it was mentioned here earlier as a fact.
And that is the thing - the alcohol doesn't really matter, it just makes things worse. If you overrun a vehicle stopping in front of you it is always your fault, drunk or not, daylight or not, middle of the road or not. There always are a hundred good reasons for a vehicle in front of you to stop suddenly. If you fail to stop in time you've been either too fast, had to little distance to the vehicle in front of you, or have not been watching the road in front of you. Simple as that.
As the driver of a car you have a responsibility towards weaker parties in traffic, i.e. motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians, drunk or not. You are moving 2 tons of steel at possibly high speeds, that can easily kill everybody getting in its way. Compare that to the damage a 100kg underbone or scooter can possibly do.
So yes, please show some compassion

Rye, perhaps I and others here (a number who seem to agree with my words) have taken your comments out of context. If you read my words carefully you will note that I've never said that your view is wrong, simply that it differs from others here. The words projected a view that so long as you are OK, then why should you care. I've read into similar sentiments from your comments in at least one other topic post (before you ask, no I can't remember which one), maybe again wrongly, but that was the impression projected. That's one of the issues when reading words without face to face visibility. I haven't condemned that view (whether correct or not) - not my place to do - just giving another view. Maybe like you, I'm not really bothered whether others agree with my comments or not. One thing I can assure of, my response is not an emotionally based one, as that's not my nature. This also has nothing to do with whether or not you are a Moderator in the Forum. I'm assuming your views are personal and that's the capacity that you have posted in. Like others, I appreciate the work that you do here as it enables the debates and information provision, but that's an aside.-

All the years I travelled the Philippines I was shure: If I ever move in the Philippines it will be CEBU, where I would like to live, cause its very central, nice Places like Moalboal, Bantayan. Malapascua....
Than I moved in the Philippines and in the first year (on CEBU) I had a very beautiful house, direkt on the waterline, private beach, two terraces (up and down) beautiful sundowns there - but that's it and after a while it started to get boring and there where too much efforts to shop all the nice things that you sometimes have to get and no chance to have social contacts to other interest people!
And than we found Dumaguete and we found everything we missed before: A huge offer of goods, food, Rastaurants and places to meet People, good Medicine support in Hospitals and Doctors, for any kind of medical problems, nice Beaches very close and the most important: Very friendly and happy people which give you the Impression to be very Welcome here, in Dumaguete!
And the bunch of foreign a..holes you can just ignore!
