    China is just one big disease. Many of the world's pandemics have originated from that country. The world needs to start holding them, and their "culture", accountable. Their trash government has hidden pandemic starting patients in the past to save face, I wouldn't doubt they did it this time around either. Complete garbage that government is.

    Reciprocity is a slippery slope. It could lead to everything being open to everyone or everything being closed to everyone but citizens. The issue is that different countries have different needs, goals and resources (real estate/tourism/business/development). Global economics and politics are just too complicated and nuanced for such a simple solution.

    Still, a little bit of tact goes a long way. I get that venting on a forum is commonplace and can help deal with the frustrations of living in a foreign culture but let's try to avoid directing our frustration at other members and being "edgy"/disrespectful. Leave that for the emotionally immature teens.

    Just look at the largest and most successful businesses in Dumaguete. None of them cater to expats in the slightest bit. Low quality - low price is what keeps you in business and makes money in the Philippines. A very high percentage of expats want high quality at Filipino price and arrogantly b*tch and moan if they don't get it. I'd just rather not have them as customers.

    As someone who has a background in health care in the UK, Australia and worked in areas around Asia where we had to use local hospitals I have this to offer.
    Healthcare in any country has great variables good doctors bad doctors good hospitals lousy hospitals.

    Expats seem to have no plans what to do in the event of an medical emergency, some come here with insufficient funds to manage serious medical illness. Medical insurance or having an emergency fund seems to get ignored.
    The gold standard these days for a heart attack is fast movement from emergency room to the angiography suite for insertion of stents to open the coronary arteries.
    Angiography is only available in Cebu or Manila and I dont know whether they follow worlds best practice in swift transfer to the angiography suite for treatment by an interventional cardiologist.
    However......clot busting drugs for treatment of a heart attack have been for 15-20 years and if given in a timely manner can clear blood flow to coronary arteries in under an hour. Country paramedics in Victoria Australia give it on route to a hospital.
    So why Silliman hospital cant treat a heart attack.......I dont know its not difficult the drugs might be a bit expensive.
    Anybody in Siquijor .........good luck I have had an opportunity to see whats in their hospital and an expat I heard of who had a serious injury they refused to treat but did give the name of a boatman who could ferry him to Dumaguete. Subsequently following his CT scan he was transferred to Cebu as Silliman has no neurological facilities.

    So I would urge people to have a plan that they discuss with friends and family have some money stashed away and have some idea of who they can contact for emergency transport. Rhoyle airlines at Dumaguete will fly you to Cebu or Manila for a price. Establish which hospitals you would like to go to.......all in Manila and Cebu is not good I went to the Holy Child in Cebu had a quick look at the Resuscitation area -no space and no equipment and thought ...........good luck to anybody hoping to be resuscitated there.

    I was teaching online classes here from March to the end of June this year. My experience was that, at first, the kids are really enthusiastic and motivated, as it's something different and quite exciting. But, their enthusiasm is quickly replaced by apathy. The quality and frequency of assignments noticeably declined as time went by. By the end of the 10 weeks, is was hardly worth the effort.

    And these are kids that are all intelligent, hard working, and have the full support and encouragement of their parents. I dread to think what it would be like if the kids were lethargic, ill-disciplined, and/ or without good parenting!

    Going back to the original subject (and yes, I know I am as guilty for going off-piste as anyone else!), I have added a link to today's clarification update ("BI clarifies only foreigners with permanent visas could enter PH starting Aug 1"). I believe it concurs with my original posting but the new article does state that many foreigners think the Philippines is soon to fully open to ALL of them - and that is NOT the case.

    From an expats perspective, perhaps.

    But many expats spend a whole lot of time complaining that "Boohoo. This and that isn't like my country! They should try to be more like where I couldn't afford to live!"
    Well, it's becoming more like our countries now. Urbanization, more people in cities, higher prices, higher wages, more pollution and congestion....but local quality of life going up. The West had the same growing pains that Asia is going through now with the pollution and congestion (a dip in the Thames River in London used to be a death sentence). Birth rates will start to go down and soon enough the government will be all up in your business, raising prices with their tax hikes so they can afford to hold your hand even more.....then the budget expats will be priced out of the country and when the locals have their own money they won't find the older long noses nearly as gwapo.
