I just finished my sandwich at Piapi Deli and have to agree with the 5 star reviews. I had a Godmother sandwich, Milano salami, capicola, smoked ham with provelone cheese and it was excellent. Comes with fries. 320p
The restaurant itself is attached to the Dumaguete Hotel and is very nice inside.
I was very impressed.

Things that can poison a dog:


Medication
This is the number one cause of pet poisonings, whether a bottle of medication was knocked on the floor and eaten, or a concerned owner trying to help only to overdose. It is crucial to keep all medication away and out of accessibility. Never give your dog human mediation without consulting your vet first. Symptoms may vary, but typically include dilated eyes, vomiting/diarrhea, confusion, and irregular breathing/heartbeat, seizures, coma, and death.

Pesticides
Sweet smelling rat poisons that are meant to attract rodents also attract your dog. Insecticides can also be easily accessed by your dog nosing around in the garden, and his flea/tick collar can make him sick if he chews on it. It is crucial you keep rat bait in inaccessible places to your dog, and monitor him if he wears a flea/tick collar or is in the garden. Household & Garden Plants
Most plants in large amounts can be potentially toxic. These common flowers are particularly dangerous: amaryllis, aconite, azalea, belladonna, buckeye, foxgloves, hyacinth, hydrangea, ivy, all species of lily, night shade, rhododendron, tulip, and yew. Symptoms of ingestion include: dilated eyes, vomiting/diarrhea, irritation around mouth, swelling of the mouth and throat, excessive drooling, excessive thirst, irregular heartbeat/breathing, muscle tremors, seizures, coma, and death.

Chocolate
Theobromine, a chemical similar to caffeine, cannot be easily metabolized by animals. Depending on the type of chocolate and your pet's size reveals how much can be deadly. Just one square of baker's chocolate is fatal to a 10 lb dog, and 2 squares are deadly to a 20 lb dog. Signs include vomiting/diarrhea, irregular heartbeat, hyperactivity, muscle tremors, seizures, cardiac arrest, and death.

Alcohol
Even so much as a drop of beer can cause intoxication. However, alcohol poisoning doesn't come from just alcoholic beverages, but also vanilla extract, and raw bread dough. The fermented yeast of swallowed dough can cause not only alcohol poisoning, but also bloat or intestinal rupture. Symptoms include: disorientation, vomiting/diarrhea, seizure, coma, swollen stomach, seizures, coma, and death.

Onions & Garlic
Ingested in large amounts can be fatal. A chemical found in these foods, thiosulphate, causes the red blood cells in the blood stream to rupture, resulting in anemia. Baby food containing onion powder has killed puppies. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, vomiting, weakness, irregular heartbeat, and jaundice.

Xylitol
This artificial sweetener is found in sugarless candy and gum and can be potentially deadly to your dog as his blood sugar rapidly drops. Symptoms include fatigue, staggering, irregular heartbeat/breathing, seizures, coma, and death.

Grapes and Raisins
Just a handful of either can be fatal to some dogs. Symptoms include vomiting/diarrhea, foamy/bloody urine, irregular heartbeat/breathing, restlessness, kidney failure, and death.

Avocado
All products of the avocado plant are poisonous to canines, including avocado fruit and guacamole dip made from it. It destroys the heart muscle and other tissues, including the lungs. Signs of poisoning include difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, swollen abdomen, fluid build up around the heart, seizures, coma, and death.

 

I've spent 25+ years out of my 49 years living/working overseas; I honestly can't figure out why an expat would be overly concerned about things that you have no control over as it would relate to politics or any officials. It has always been my thing to never talk politics or religion, I do have my opinions and some are strong but for the most part I keep them to myself and don't put them out on a forum.

Obviously we can complain on a forum about things being out of stock or the frustrations with getting things accomplished. Sometimes it sucks but I've been in places that are much more difficult to deal with.

I've been a member of this forum for a decade now as it is a great format for sharing information and experiences. The expat community seems to be quite diverse and I think that really adds to things. Not to leave out locals as I believe there are quite a few that are part of the forum and their input on discussions is very important.

As a follow-up. Saw Dr Calindawagan at Daro. Chalk and cheese. Helpful, attentive and took his time to answer all my questions. Delighted with his service and will return. Highly recommended!

 

Tried Curry House for lunch today. My wife ordered the combo plate, I ordered the chicken korma. Very spicy, I do like spicy but even for me it was on the edge, but my wife could not eat any of it. I liked the food except for a chicken dish on the combo plate, it was inedible. There were only two other tables with people, and still it took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. We were just in the process of gathering up our stuff to leave when they finally came with the food, but really we should have left long before. My wife does not want to go back, but I would be willing to give them a second try. I told her next time we will remember to request not so spicy when we place our order, I would like to try the tandoori and some of the other dishes (requested not so spicy), but the VERY slow service decreases the odds that we would go back again.

 

Why would you want your own transformer and why is that better?
I'll try and explain.
If you look at the electrical system as a whole. The power is generated at 13.8 Kv then boosted up to 69 Kv and sent to the substations. At the substation the voltage is reduced to 7 Kv and distributed around the city.
Noreco has small transformers all over the city that reduce the 7 Kv down to 220 volts. There may be 20 or 30 homes on each of those transformers.
Picture this: if all of your neighbors turn on their aircons or rice cookers the voltage will drop at your house because of the increased load. The pole mounted transformers typically have a voltage drop of about 10% at full load (more if overloaded). Low voltage really kills motors such as aircons and refs. If one of your neighbors is using something like an arc welder your voltage will be all over the map.
At the power generation station the voltage of the 13.8 Kv/69 Kv/7 Kv systems are regulated to the correct levels. If your home is feed from a transformer connected to the 7 Kv system then your voltage will be fairly stable as the voltage will only be effected by your household load.
Noreco can adjust their power generation based on what happens throughout the island but they can not control what happens in your neighborhood.
If you have expensive electrical/electronics and some spare cash then buy a transformer.

 

For this particular product some additional info.
When you have a look upon your receipt, you will read the wedge is being sold by a weight of 230 gram.
Looking @the backside of the product you will read the real weight.............almost always lower than 230 gram sometimes even just a little bit above 200 gram.
I point this out to a supervisor, guess what no comment and a complete silence.
So I took up the matter with Frico customer service in Holland for explanation and clarification.
Their answer the machine that cut the wedge is set on 230 gram with a flexibility in weight it could be less but never more.
However, the shop owner should fix the price in accordance with the real weight and not according to the standard set weight.
Frico said the overall total weight of all wedges is sold by the fixed kilo price.
So @least the importer of this product will not be overcharged not for even one peso.
I have no idea how the importer is billing these wedges to Lee, Hupermarket or Robinson. But do you believe they will except a bill paying more than the actual weight,. So once again the customers pay the bill (of course) but in uncorrect way.
A product like this, for sale in a supermarket in Holland,get a price tag in accordance with the actual weight.
For example here in the PH. The receipt says 211 peso for 230 gram which is 91,7 centavos a gram.
So a wedge with a weight of 210 gram should cost 210 x 91,7 = 192,57 peso.
That 18 peso more it will not make me bankrupt, but it's always very remarkable that the profit of a price round up always is in favour of the shop owner and never of the customer.
