From what I have read, immunity after recovering from Covid-19 is not well understood yet.
There has been some research done on antibodies prevalence in former patients and the results don't look promising (hardly anyone with antibodies still present 6 months after recovery).
However, that's only part of the immunity story. The human body also has T-cells, which serve as a sort of "memory bank" against previously encountered viruses. These T-cells can quickly mount a defense in case of renewed infection.
The very very few cases where people have twice gotten sick with Covid-19 are too insignificant.

Significant continued mutation of the SARS-COV2 virus similar to the flu virus, would obviously pose a serious problem for bringing it under control with vaccines.

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert, so I may have understood some of this wrong.

 

i have lost forty pounds since coming here but have a long ways to go. more importantly to me is that i came here on ten prescription meds and i am now down to three, with two of those now being half tabs.

i ride a bicycle almost every day to market and my diet has shifted markedly towards fresh raw vegetables.

i once might have been within hailing distance of mr rye's fitness, having a 28 inch waist, weighing 140 pounds and running every day. wore a three piece suit to work, closed the discos at 2 a m three nights a week and my s*** didn't stink!! but those days are long long gone.

the most important change for me here is that i love every day. i am happier in my personal life than i have ever been. every two years when i go back to the states i reach a new level of loathing for that life i used to live. (tho i still miss the biscuits and gravy but even when i go back i don't eat them anymore)

i am always on the lookout for those things we expats have in common here and will offer the opinion that generally speaking we appear to be and or claim to be happier and more self satisfied here. i know it is markedly true for me.

this is probably a good time to say that my daily dose of dumaguete info is a positive for me and i enjoy the humor, observations, assistance to each other and electronic repartee!

 

Las Mariachi's is the name-I live very close and LOVE IT-the menu is evolving and they're adding new things it seems--the tacos and burritos are smallish but so tasty-the refried beans totally rock..IMHO lol
FYI the Filipino is very good and inexpensive-they usually have 2-3 Filipino dishes in a buffet style- the Bicol Express was good-

 

I went out and had a look at the bridge and think the fault lies with the cement supplier.
Attached are a couple of pictures. They show that the concrete literally turned into small pieces and "dust".
There was a lot of re-bar. The top cord seemed to have a lot. The bottom cord was not visible so who knows.
The bridge is arched slightly about 8-12" over a 60' span which looks about right IMO. The concrete would be in bulk modulus (compression mode) and should no have failed.

I met an Aussie that makes concrete paving stones for driveways and sidewalks. He got a batch of bad cement and his paving stones literally crumbled in his hands. The cement was manufactured on Cebu island. The factory actually replaced his 250 bags of bad cement and gave him another 250 bags to make up for his troubles. The cement factory said they only had 500 bags of the bad batch. Maybe there was more defective product and some of it may have ended up here.

At least the bridge failed before it was completed and people were using it.

 

My wife told me a sad story the other day regarding a distant relation in Siquijor, this woman was standing at a corner when a drunk on a motorbike managed to run into her and break her arm, it turned out that the drunk had no registration or insurance or money (only money for tanduay) so her arm was never fixed, this happened over 1 month ago so the woman has all sorts of complications to the injury now but the drunk is still on the road with the motorbike as the police feel sorry for him as he would not be able to carry out his business with no motorbike.
So it seems that if Dumaguete is the wild west then Siquijor is the wild wild west.

 

I received my second dose of Moderna yesterday on the base in Guam. Felt nothing with the first dose, woke up this morning with a bit of soreness in my shoulder. Got the COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card.

I have experience with this,, the proper route is to play their game.. Ask how much they want to move. When they give you a price say ok, i am going to give that amount to a good lawyer and you will get nothing. Any competent lawyer has connections with the DENR, City Engineers Office. DOH,, DOLE, Noreco if they have electric and DCWD if they have a water connection without a land title. Let the locals handle it just help them out a bit.. These people have turned squatting into a well paid profession even though its against the law.. The city government payed millions to buy out all the squatters on foreshore and private land on the boulevard extension to the north..
