I worked on line here for a few years and I used two ISP's and a dual wan router. (not a load balancer) It allows you to have up to 4 providers and it is set up to pick the best speed out of the providers dynamically. It switches instantaneously, from the slower or offline to the faster of the two or how ever many providers you have. With two providers and a battery backup, I was never offline and always had a speedy connection.

 

Not allowing foreign ownership of land, or making it difficult to purchase, and not allowing 51% ownership of businesses is a major factor holding back development of this country. If the Philippines turned into one of those developed countries you mentioned, then for the purposes of this thread, this exercise would be a “success”. Nobody is disguising anything. In any case, it is financially better for me if it stays the same but I would like to see the country improve, and it actually has, every year since I first first visited in 1988 and then retired here a few years ago. This is just a discussion about how to jump start it to make things better for everybody.

i have always been told, and my own belief and experience is, try to resolve any dispute involving the police with the first officer on the scene if possible. my experience is that the police ajudicate those situations they are involved in and the price only goes up the more people become involved. and of course there is the truism that, "the foreigner always pays"

I beg to disagree with our esteemed reviewer. Whilst Coco's could do a lot to improve service this is by far not the worst review of an establishment I have read about. I would like to indulge readers with a sorry story I heard aboard a dive vessel off Aqaba Jordan some 8 years ago...

A guest on board checked into one of the local Premier Hotels paying approx $340 per night. He was kept waiting for 3 hours as "the room is not ready sir". Said guest was forced to wait in the desert heat outside "as it is policy sir, no uninvited people are allowed on premises. You have not checked in".

3 hours later and 'escorted' by the bell hop to his room the said bell hop handed over the room key and legged it as fast as he could leaving said guest struggling outside his room with his luggage. Upon gaining entry he found that his "premier"room had no furniture. That's right his bed, sofa, wall table and anything else had disappeared. So our intrepid guest returns to the check in desk..."ahh sorry sir, we have obviously made a mistake here, we are pleased to show you to your new room...". The same bell hop 'escorts' this guest to his room in a similar fashion, ie, you carry your own bags I'll struggle with my very heavy room key.

Upon entering his new room our guest is assailed by a terrible smell. The previous occupant has left what can only be described as "a deposit" in the sink (heaven knows why, but it takes all sorts doesn't it?) By now our guest has just about had enough and so returns to the check in desk. Raising the issue with the duty check in clerk the clerk says "one minute sir, all will be well, please wait here" and scoots off. The clerk returns 5 minutes later...with (roll of drums....tish!)...... an air freshener aerosol. Talk about a Basil Fawlty moment

Of course, by now our dive guest is livid and demands to see the manager. The manager arrives and our guest pours out his litany of complaints, doing his best to keep his temper. After all, a long tiring journey to be kept waiting as the room is not ready outside in the heat, missing furniture and finally unusual sewage disposal methods, anyone would have had enough at $340 per night. And the managers response? "You can't complain. You are only a guest."

I kid you not, this really happened. So whilst all might not be so well in the Phils service department (and I have really seen some lax, crazy service here) it is not as bad as all that. Most folks when you draw their attention here to things not going well usually respond with a smile and an apology. At least they don't insult us to boot.

 

I must correct you here, firstly if you met a man from Glasgow, Ye widnae understaund wan word he said, it is more likely he was a white settler claiming to be Scottish (an Englishman who resides in Scotland) As for humour Glaswegians are perhaps the funniest people in the world, we have our Billy Connolly as testimony to that, it is much more likely he was just making fun of you, if he really was a true Scot.

Now men in dresses, I guess you know it is called a Kilt? if ever you were to see the actions of these men in the Highland Games, you would have a bit more respect for them, just for fun they throw a 300lb Telegraph Pole, can chuck a 56lb hammer for 100yds, when it comes to running they race up and down a mountain, the Olympic games is not for them that is for fairies.

Education in Scotland was and perhaps still is the best in the world? for a small population of just over 5 million we have created, invented and discovered so many things, John Logie Baird TV, Alexander Bell Telephones, Alexander Fleming Antibiotics, James Bond another Scotsman, this list can go on and on and on.

One more thing that is not known to most Yanks is; before the War of Independence the British sent all their convicts and undesirables to both US and Canada, who helped to win that War a Scotsman John Paul Jones, The father of the American Navy.

Why bother quarantining the over 60 as no other country does this as far as I know Those rules mentioned above will not be followed and the virus will just be brought back to the quarantined .... so the theory that we would fill up the ICU beds (such as they are) will happen anyway. I will cease following the quarantine rules and take my chances so yes open up the economy and lets dance
