The best all around is Globe phone and internet combo. I been here 20 years and have tried them all. I would also invest in a battery back-up that will keep your internet modem alive during black outs! Keep in mind that doing business here will usually aggravate most foreigners. Try not to show you are upset. Smile, beg, and tip heavy and you'll get better treatment. And if you need repairs, be sure to compliment, smile, and tip the repairman so he will rush back when you need help again. NEVER YELL OR SHOW ANGER TO A FILIPINO!

Noel's referal came by when he said he would --looked at the problem-turned off the water to the house and then went up to the hardware store for some parts-came back and finished it up--went just like I hoped it would--
    thanks

I don't think you can, the workers would destroy them and you would have to buy it. But Rejoice sell "real" Bosch and Dewalt tools and good quality concrete bits. For about a 100 usd you can buy a hammer drill and they have a great selection of bits. Also they are the warranty shop for all of Negros and do super repair work....

Acuna Vet, not too far from the airport, is popular with expats, also the one near Hypermart gets very good reviews. I have used both. I initially used the vet across from Cangs but was not at all satisfied.

Most of the price rises we are seeing for food and commodities is just opportunism. Much of it has no relation to the cost of raw materials, transport, labor etc.

I would think this would give an incentive to consider growing your own? Onions are easy grown and I see no reason for them not to do well there in PH, they are not troubled by many pests and there is perhaps just one problem to grow them there and that is Neck Rot a fungus caused in wet weather, especially when grown direct in the ground, something worth trying there is to grow them in elevated containers, when at home in UK I use a couple of 9inch pots in these I plant any type of onion seed to pick them young for use in Salads, when the first two pots are well sprouted, I start another two and occasionally repeat this again for a third time, with the first one started in the house in early Feb then transferred into my Greenhouse, I am using these from the start of April right up till end of Nov, I see no reason not to try this on a larger scale to produce a good sized bulb for cooking with. To do this on a larger scale knock up a box 2ft sq around 1ft in depth using Coco lumber set it at waist height (under cover so you can control the watering) be generous with the sowing of your seed and pick the early sprouts for use in salads, this way you are thinning them out to allow the growth of larger bulbs, the same can be done with carrots in a similar box with around an extra 6inch in depth, again sow them quite thick to pick the early ones to eat raw, they will be very sweet when young, for carrots I would grow under a fine Mosquito net to stop carrot Fly getting to them, the best time of the year to start this in PH would be the end of Dec till late Jan, likely this can be done at any time of the year there, but these will be the best times for planting.

Or try HLV auto parts on Sta Rosa Street. They stock new parts but have a huge stock in a 3-storey building. A friend of ours has been restoring a 94 Honda (Civic) I think and they have had just about every obscure item he has asked for. It helps to bring in the item that needs replacing though, to avoid confusion as they might not use the same term to refer to it as we do. Very helpful staff.

Similar experience of disservice with Kia. They spent a week trying to find my problem. Recommended replacing the primary fuse box at the expense of P13,000 plus labor. Not the problem. They finally gave up. Turned out to be a fuel sensor. Grrrr.

But Nissan is just as bad. Six times in a row I've gone there, either to try to buy a part or to have a little service done. Last week I wanted to buy a replacement tail light assembly. Not in stock, of course. I left my contact number. Didn't hear from them. Went in to see if they had any news. "Oh, yes, Sir. The part is available from Nissan in Manila. P9,700!!" Two weeks prior I bought the exact same item for the other side of the car, in Manila, for P5,500. Just TRY to explain the price difference to me, you boogers.

Had them put in a louder horn. Wanted P3,700 pesos. What!!! The part was only P750 and labor couldn't possibly have been more than an hour. She offered a 50% discount if I turned in my old horn. Hell yes. But even at P1,850 I was ripped off.

Wanted to have two front wheel bearings replaced. Too busy just then. Left my contact number. Never heard from them. Did the job myself.

WAnted to buy wheel covers for my unit. "Oh, the parts person is on vacation and she's the only one who can look up the price."

A couple of other times they didn't have some pretty basic parts.

    The place is totally WORTHLESS.

HVL, on the other hand, is one of the best small businesses in town. They serve you quickly. The staff are quite knowledgeable and friendly. They have thousands and thousands of parts on hand and will try hard to find it for you if they don't have it.
