I was teaching online classes here from March to the end of June this year. My experience was that, at first, the kids are really enthusiastic and motivated, as it's something different and quite exciting. But, their enthusiasm is quickly replaced by apathy. The quality and frequency of assignments noticeably declined as time went by. By the end of the 10 weeks, is was hardly worth the effort.

And these are kids that are all intelligent, hard working, and have the full support and encouragement of their parents. I dread to think what it would be like if the kids were lethargic, ill-disciplined, and/ or without good parenting!

 

Going back to the original subject (and yes, I know I am as guilty for going off-piste as anyone else!), I have added a link to today's clarification update ("BI clarifies only foreigners with permanent visas could enter PH starting Aug 1"). I believe it concurs with my original posting but the new article does state that many foreigners think the Philippines is soon to fully open to ALL of them - and that is NOT the case.

Why are you always so rude/ aggressive/ confrontational when someone disagrees with you or makes a comment you don't like? It's really rather obnoxious behaviour. Time and again you have done this. Show a bit of respect to other members of this forum.

Comments such as "idiot" "hide behind your dictionary" "well-below average IQ" etc are childish and unnecessary.

I thought people are supposed to chill out more when they age.......?

Aluminum is the third most common naturally-occurring element, after oxygen and silicon. It is found in plants, soil, air, and water. A breast-fed infant will naturally ingest around 7 milligrams of aluminum in her diet throughout the first six months of her life. In contrast, the standard vaccines administered over the first six months of an infant's life contain an average of just 4.4 milligrams of aluminum. Aluminum has been used safely for over six decades in vaccines, with no scientific evidence indicating otherwise.

 

From what I have read, immunity after recovering from Covid-19 is not well understood yet.
There has been some research done on antibodies prevalence in former patients and the results don't look promising (hardly anyone with antibodies still present 6 months after recovery).
However, that's only part of the immunity story. The human body also has T-cells, which serve as a sort of "memory bank" against previously encountered viruses. These T-cells can quickly mount a defense in case of renewed infection.
The very very few cases where people have twice gotten sick with Covid-19 are too insignificant.

Significant continued mutation of the SARS-COV2 virus similar to the flu virus, would obviously pose a serious problem for bringing it under control with vaccines.

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert, so I may have understood some of this wrong.

 

I received my second dose of Moderna yesterday on the base in Guam. Felt nothing with the first dose, woke up this morning with a bit of soreness in my shoulder. Got the COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card.

Following on from Rye's eloquent "I don't care" post, I am getting the distinct feeling that's it's got to the stage now where the vast majority also "don't care". How many deaths have their actually been in Negros Oriental in the last 6 months from covid? I don't follow it closely. Have there been any?

Today was my first day back teaching with full face to face classes. Chatting to people I quickly realised:

Students: They don't care.
Parents of students: They don't care
Teachers: They don't care

Wearing masks where one won't get fined: Nobody cares
Social distancing unless it is monitored: Nobody cares
Curfew: Nobody cares
Checkpoints: Nobody cares

As for me, I really don't care!
