I assume classes will NOT restart whilst the young, the old, the pregnant (two of these groups overlap - a double whammy!) are locked indoors.
Always hope for an effective vaccine but be prepared that it may never arrive or may take years - so under the 'no vaccine, no school' rule (and, I assume, some form of quarantine remaining), it is possible that schools will remain shut for 3 years. Unless they rethink their policies.

You cannot live here very long before realising that the media and/or government have a very negative attitude towards aliens. Read newspapers and they are full of headlines "Foreigner does this, foreigner does that", even if the behavior is very common among Filipinos. And I note that if a group of foreigners and Filipinos are caught doing something illegal, it is headlined "x foreigners and y Filipinos caught ...." when y is the greater number - the foreigners are mentioned first.
Perhaps some may think that is correct as we are guests here, but in many Western countries the headlines seem to favour immigrants against citizens.-

I am not sure what forms of testing are available in the country but, sure, you are correct that a test performed days before they fly will have little bearing on their Covid-19 status if they mix with others in the intervening days. It will only eliminate those definitely infected at the time - which is, of course, a good thing.
If I had to design a methodology, I would say:
1. Test a few days before flying - enough time to get results back (and, obviously, eliminate the positives from flying).
2. Put the tested persons in guarded individual quarantine for those few days (families together). In fact, they should already be in quarantine and the swab taken there.
3. Test temperature and check other signs (e.g. coughs) and then take them, fully showered and in fresh clothes and mask, to the airport in a bus with social distancing.
4. Either re-do the test on arrival and quarantine until results are available or put them in guarded quarantine upon arrival for 14 days.
It might seem that if steps 1 to 3 are performed accurately then step 4 is not required - but better to be water-tight as test results are, I believe, not 100% correct. The putting of families together is a risk, but young children simply cannot be traumatised by being held separately. I suppose, therefore, that families who quarantined together in stage 2 should have to do stage 4 on arrival.-

was at the main public market this morning, all the eateries are open and doing business, all customers are sitting down and doing there thing, then you have to ask who owns them, no small fry owns them you can be sure, it seems only certain people are allowed to lose money in this epidemic, 8 weeks is it now, trying to secure passes, avoiding the crowds, trying to do your little bit, to get back to some breed of normalcy and just when it was getting a little brighter, WHAM, all we have to show for it is empty pockets and greyer hairs, everything that was gained has been lost, you just know with all this bullshxx talk from the higher powers, blaming him and her and them and you, with every passing day these clowns are just showing us they are and never were up to the job at hand, and that was pre-virus-

despite being German, I am not blindly following orders without ever asking myself if they actually make sense. Doesnt matter if here or elsewhere. So far I've done well with that approach. Good luck with yours.

Your posting will split the Forum as there are many who approve of certain control methods, some who hate them. This is obvious from every new posting on the subject. But, as a believer in control of Covid-19 (there being no preventative medicines currently), this is my response:
Then why are dams built if once they are removed, areas flood?
Infection is not inevitable for the majority, as things stand at the current time. That may change but a vaccine/antiviral medications/weakening of the virus, would prevent that outcome.
What will happen to save the majority of us is what I wrote in the paragraph above plus the sensible use of lockdowns and other methods.
They were lucky - probably they had no co-morbitities and may be of a younger age. But look at the figures and you will see that almost one million people had a greater outcome - they died. And many millions suffered more than only a loss of smell and taste. If anyone can predict with 99% accuracy, in advance, which infected persons will go on to develop only a mild illness then they should get the Nobel Prize.
I am out and about - only been in a "cell" (of my choosing) for a few weeks. I acknowledge the economic factors (and that some lockdowns were unnecessary or too draconian) but there was no real alternative.
And are you suggesting that people who believe in some controls have no empathy? It is easy to argue the opposite case - the divide is primarily between preventative control (agreed with mostly by older people and ill people) and avoidance of economic disruption (agreed with mostly by young, fit people). "Empathy" can be used as a defence in both cases.-

I do not have the “expertise” on this subject that my fellow cell mates apparently have but after all the back and forth posts I am left wondering if the right answer is, “there is no right answer”!

Hello again everyone. I've now experienced COVID responses in 3 countries (Philippines, UAE, Kuwait). In all three places, once lockdowns and other measures are relaxed, numbers rise. Here in Kuwait, they are predicting a "Second, deadlier wave of COVID-19" around October. I ask you, why are lockdowns happening if after they are ended, the numbers go up? Why do most of you not see infection as inevitable? What will happen to this virus to save you?
My older brother's ex-wife cuts hair on a military installation in the US. Their measures are rather draconian as military members are a captive audience with modified rights. The very first day my brother's ex-wife was allowed to cut hair, she was infected with COVID-19. She took it home to her 17 year old son. Her 17 year old son took it to his father's home, infecting his father and his father's new significant other.
In all 4 cases, the worst thing that happened was they all completely lost their sense of smell and sense of taste. Each experienced mild flu type symptoms, stayed at home as required, and went back to school and work afterwards. All 4 cases. My brother isn't well off financially and now had to postpone working on his coursework for PA. His SO was just fine as she is employed as an RN. His ex-wife was let go/fired/whatever you want to call not having a job any longer. His son is now two weeks further behind on his school work, which has always been a problem for him.
In 3 of the 4 cases, their lives are worse off, not due to the disease, but their goverment's and employer's means of dealing with it. How long do you believe people should stay in their cells? Why do you find that option tenable? Do you perhaps lack the empathy you accuse others of lacking?-

It's not the population of China that should be blamed, just their elite and corrupt government. The people generally are fine, but have no choice but to accept their authoritarian governance.
