It's true that initially most Governments didn't know what they were dealing with or how to handle it.
To a lesser degree they still don't have answer today, apart from social distancing which I'm sure you have read or seen is being ignored by many in a lot of countries.
Until a vaccine is marketed, you can expect highs and lows in the numbers of positive's
It is also stated that persons with health problems are more likely to die from the virus..... and that due to the loosening of restrictive travel a second spike is likely.
For most people, the fact that they have mild symtoms, makes them feel the virus is not as serious as we are lead to believe!
Well I can assure the doubters that having a friend (Filipino ) who I have always considered fit and healthy here in UK, spend over 50 days in hospital mostly on a ventilator.......
This is not the time to be complacent!

 

I think there may be some misunderstanding re the basis of the discount. I was also quoted a 'senior discount' for eye surgery in a Dumaguete clinic. No 'Senior Discount Card' was mentioned by me, or them. If there are businesses choosing to give discounts to seniors for commercially motivated reasons, then that's their prerogative, surely. You can't be arrested for accepting an unsolicited discount.

 

Well, not a guess (the fact that some would be saved) but a process of rational thinking. There would be no point spending millions on cancer treatments, as an example, if there was no evidence that treatment prevents suffering and possible death. Similarly for a virus disease - the fact that it is more acute and easily spread makes it far more imperative to treat it by ALL reasonable means possible.

You note I used the word "reasonable" so I am not talking about shutting down economies where the risk is low or separating bike riders with plastic - but primarily the use of face masks, other PPE, social distancing, track and tracing and a few other things.

My 'evidence', which forms part of my rational thinking (not 'guessing') is two-fold:

1. The experience of treating other contagious diseases and the knowledge of how they spread - the evidence for Covid-19's spread is now overwhelming.
2. The fact that countries which did the things I listed above as 'reasonable' (I especially cite Taiwan) have had very low cases/deaths. So doing reasonable things = lower cases, lower death rates, lower educational and business disruption; doing nothing or very little or doing something but the wrong things (e.g Brazil) = huge number of cases and higher death rates.

Please cite your evidence for doing nothing and not overwhelming hospitals and killing people.

 

Getting back on topic, if by some reason you or someone you know tests positive but is not symptomatic, triggers persistent contact tracing to measure the extent others have been exposed to you and under the color of law advises them to self quarantine for 14 days.

If the contact tracer finds you or your friend can't be separated within your home or compound to quarantine, you are taken to a guarded holding facility. This facility is a madhouse triage in the best cases on hospital grounds. Water food and medicine for your other conditions have to be provided by your runners which will later become symptomatic due to continuous exposure to this environment. The Delta timeline is short measured in hours between exposure to symptoms appearing.

If you have means, you can request to be moved to an approved hotel one of which is the C and L Hotel which has a guarded floor for Covid quarantine. The rooms are small and no windows. No doctor and no medicine. Your contract tracer is only available during City business hours. You are there to scream and cry from the Covid pain and isolation without family or loved ones.

We have a family acquaintance going through this now.

Your post is very well written, but what proof do we have that chosen leaders are verbal communicators and not readers?

I agree that leaders sometimes seem to be chosen for the wrong attributes - 'charisma' being a big advantage. But with the 'celebrity culture' there is a danger leaders will commonly be chosen due to exposure - it has already happened. People even talk of dim-witted 'Instagram' types as potential leaders (I mean the 'look-at-me' posers, not the readers).

But I wish you had not digressed onto the second part, about this Forum. Try to find its equal here in the Philippines and you will struggle. It is not necessary to moderate it to the point when anyone finding difficulties in expressing themselves clearly in the written word gets put off, especially those who do not have English as their main language. This would just reduce the value the Forum provides to 'newbies' finding their feet and the established (who by now probably have trouble seeing their feet!).

If it ain't broke then don't fix it.
