I think that part of the problem isn't so much the growth, because there has been plenty of that, it is who is growing. Small businesses are going under and large corporations, many paying little too no taxes, are taking over. The more these massive corporations grow the faster people become slaves to these corporations.
Another issue is all the debt governments are accumulating. Somebody has to pay for that.

Ditto - except no 2m stack of pizza boxes! Even as I read your post I had to check the day. It is Friday - where did Tue, Wed, Thurs go?
Am a great believer in accepting that people can do only what is possible in the circumstances - including what resources they have. For example, if you are stuck in a trailer then you think what is the best you can do for yourself and your family. In this situation I think the Philippines has done a fairly good job - we have to consider their lack of resources and (hate to say this but...) their complex bureaucracy when they lack the skills to implement it.-

Perhaps I misunderstand you, but why are "at risk people" not able to be sheltered?
And the Delta variant is now affecting the young much more than other variants - if people think Delta is the final variant then I think they will soon be proved wrong. I hope not, but the potential for Covid to become an illness of the young (where it could potentially cause serious illness) is present and so no age group should be thinking in terms of letting other age groups die.
I don't care how 'pointless' some people think the elderly are to the world now - I think more that these are human beings who have given much already (many served us in wars and helped give the freedom we, including the young, all enjoy) and have people who love them and want them around for as long as possible.
Thank God we have people like @danbandanna who have compassion.-

getting tired of the lack of compassion here... when it seems to be the young who flout the rules and spread the virus and the old who follow the rules....

PAL issued a new advisory 7pm last night now saying they ARE flying to Dumaguete Weds 3rd and Fri 5th

Wait around a few hours and it could change again!
Passengers are I understand mostly LSI's fully documented with Travel Authority and approved by Dumaguete City and met by LGU officials and transported to 14 day quarantine either the City Gym (free) or LGU arranged Hotel (you pay)
WHO ARE LSIs?
Locally Stranded Individuals (students, tourists, workers) who have expressed their interest to return to their place of residence.
My partner and her 6yo son are in the LSI's arriving Weds 3rd after 10 weeks stranded in Marinduque. Hope it happens

I know I wrote about "infected" persons - do you not get the point that an "asymptomatic carrier" is also an 'infected person'?
I would not give advice to people to wear a mask only if they 'know' they are asymptomatic as they won't know they are!
Your main point was that a mask provides no protection to the wearer - you cannot be talking here of infected people as achieving "no protection" is a bit late in their case! You must be talking about people who are probably not already infected - so these are the people who should ALSO have been wearing a mask. I don't care what experts have spent months saying as more and more countries day by day are increasing the use of masks. In the analysis of this disease they will recognise their grave errors. It has taken 'experts' months to recognise this and cost thousands of lives.
You now say that everyone should be wearing a mask in case they are infected (with or without symptoms) and I agree - but to say a mask has no protective value to the wearer is wrong and is what I pointed out to you.
Also, you wrote on your original post that "any form of cloth" will impede the distance the virus can travel from the infected person. I agree - so why is "any form of cloth" (your words) able to do that but not impede the virus entry INTO a person? Does not make sense. If you read my post above to Mr Poppy, you will read about the force exerted on the virus particles when leaving the mouth as opposed to entering it - that is why wearing a mask may (nothing is certain) stop most, or all, virus particles coughed out by person A entering person B. At present, most of us here are Person B (not infected and not wanting to be).
And, finally, you say concerning masks "That is also what COMPETENT authorities tell us." I feel the word "competent" (in upper case!) is a dig at me (water off a duck's back) but I am pleased for you and others here in the Philippines that we are not in our scientifically-advanced countries, full of scientific advice and competency, where people are dying in their thousands. P.S. Don't forget to add the WHO (not the rock group!) to your list of COMPETENT authorities - they have been an absolute gem!-

Rye, perhaps I and others here (a number who seem to agree with my words) have taken your comments out of context. If you read my words carefully you will note that I've never said that your view is wrong, simply that it differs from others here. The words projected a view that so long as you are OK, then why should you care. I've read into similar sentiments from your comments in at least one other topic post (before you ask, no I can't remember which one), maybe again wrongly, but that was the impression projected. That's one of the issues when reading words without face to face visibility. I haven't condemned that view (whether correct or not) - not my place to do - just giving another view. Maybe like you, I'm not really bothered whether others agree with my comments or not. One thing I can assure of, my response is not an emotionally based one, as that's not my nature. This also has nothing to do with whether or not you are a Moderator in the Forum. I'm assuming your views are personal and that's the capacity that you have posted in. Like others, I appreciate the work that you do here as it enables the debates and information provision, but that's an aside.-

Yes, but having a tempered point of view and being vigilant is very rare. Being vigilant is the key here. You are projecting your point of view upon others in that you think they can act in a balanced way as you do.
Earlier today a person posted this about some people: "They are simple people with simple minds incapable of critical thinking. They regurgitate the crap they read online verbatim."
My point is that many people will go out and NOT be vigilant unless constantly being reminded.
This is a communicable disease and the behavior of a few affects us all.-

i don't understand why valencia and bacong would close the fresh markets, cept that the people in charge don't value fresh foods and or, have a personal interest in a sari-sari, mini-mart, etc.
valencia has a huge sports field where venders could spread out, bacong has the concrete fish area and the adjacent hiway sidewalk where the lanzone venders set up; it wouldn't be that hard to maintain physical distancing. what's to happen with the fresh produce farmer's have taken months to grow? store brought shrink wrapped/foam trays produce leaves something to desire...-
