I rarely write restaurant reviews. Only if a place is truly dreadful or massively exceeds my expectations can I be bothered.
Biryani Point fits into the latter category. I went there last night because of a friend's recommendation and was more than pleasantly surprised.
Don't be put off by the look of the place. It doesn't look like a place you'd want to eat at, and it certainly isn't going to win any awards for ambience (basically it has none), but if, like me, you're a fan of Indian food, you have to visit this place.
I was brought up on Indian food in London and have visited India and other South Asian countries several times, so I know a good (and bad) curry when I find one. These were delicious and authentic. By no means the best Indian meal I've ever eaten, but considering where we are, it was fantastic.
The owner (from South India) was friendly, welcoming and accommodating.
They don't serve alcohol (Muslim) but the owner kindly allowed us to buy some beer from across the street and drink there.
All-in-all, I was a very satisfied customer and I'll be returning frequenting. If you want some real Indian food I suggest you do too.
If you're wondering where it is, it's almost directly opposite Octagon Sports Bar.

We found a very good indian restaurant "Curry" in the Aldecoa Dr., this is the street to the Silliman Hospital. Simple interieur, friendly staff, menue card not too big - we had 2 great fresh Mango Lassi, wife was happy with a chicken Biryani, I got surprised by a good portion of chicken Korma, we also tried the crispy fresh Naan bread and a salad with yoghurt dressing. Everything together for a very fair price - totally recommendable new restaurant. It's getting better and better in Dumaguete.

- Thread: Food Rehab Burgers
Found a place the other day with pretty decent burgers. If you're going north on Flores, just after you pass by Hayahay keep going straight along the ocean. After just a short distance you will see this new center that is just constructed on the left. There are a few shops there, and a Mafioso restaurant that just opened (they still have a limited soft opening menu). Across the parking lot from Mafioso, back in the corner (and apparently owned by the same people that own Mafioso) there is a little place called Food Rehab that specializes in burgers. They have quite an assortment, bacon cheese, mushroom, Hawaiian, I had what was called the "What the Truck" burger. It was huge, covered with chili, and served in a cast iron skillet. It's a small little place, if you didn't know about it you would probably never find it, but if you're craving for a good burger I would recommend checking it out.

There is a new german bakery that opened a couple of weeks ago now at the south end of the plaza square called Ludwigs bakery, very good quality bread and many different types to choose from, they also have a small cafe with a good range of foods to choose from and sell beer there as well.
We have been buying bread there every few day and find the bread to very good quality-

Ate at Alex Pizzeria yesterday on third floor of Lee Plaza on recommendations from here. Both my daughter & I found it was way below average, overpriced(for what it was), dry, tasteless, low cost ingredients, reheated in an oven toaster. Never again.

Wandered into a coffee shop yesterday in Dumaguete for a coffee and bite. Upon entering was immediately impressed, nice colours, no screaming music and nice clear black board menu.
Ordered a latte and asked if the chicken sandwich was available, yes sir of course, was also given wi fi password. Coffee arrived with in a few minutes, tasted like fresh arabica beans, very nice. While waiting on sandwich was requesting help from the waitress to make a call. The owner manager appeared, introduced herself and offered to help me. Next she pulled out her cell made a call to Cebu, immediately through to manager and problem sorted....Wonderful.
Gets better guys, this was maybe the best chicken sandwich I have ever eaten. Wonderful large super fresh bun, thick tender chicken breast, touch pineapple lettuce and best of all just a light smither of mayonaise. Delicious and all in a lovely ambiance.Just what Dumaguete needs.
Price P165.
Name......QYOSKO
Where.....Opposite OK pension house.-

- Thread: Pancake House Dumaguete
12 years ago I used to take my to-be wife to the Pancake House in Fort Bonifacio, where we lived, every day for breakfast. Today we went to the new one in Bantayan on
Airport Road before Silliman farm, left side.
Very good food, I had a Spanish omelete and a crispy waffle, wife had beef tapas, and boy had blueberry pancakes and a side of bacon. Nice menu, open all day. Suggest going after 10am, at least on Saturdays.-

- Thread: Pretty damn good Thai food
There is a newish Thai restaurant that I tried last night called Aquarius. It's about 2 km south of Dauin down a short lane on the ocean side of the highway. The couple recently moved here after living for quite a while in Koh Lanta running a dive shop. The wife is a filipina but cooks authentic Thai, at least from the dishes we tried. Our first time so we had the som tam and tom yum and our friends had satay and larb. The som tam, tom yum and satay were excellent, after living in Thailand for the past 5 years I was pleased at how good the food was. They said they toned the spices down for the local clientele so if you like it spicy you have to let them know. Very accommodating couple with good food. We're already talking about a second visit.
