I always love to hear about new places and Esturya, though I do pass by many times, was not aware, there wa a resto. So visited the place last evening. Upon entering it already gives you the right atmosphere. The furniture is well chosen. Chairs are really comfortable to sit, no rocking tables that you have to ask for a piece of carton to make it steady, an aircon on the right temperature and not like in some places antartic cold. The lights also well chosen. So all the ingredients for a nice diner. The menu has enough choices of various pasta meals. The drinking list is more than outstanding. But what I still do not understand, if you invest so much in a place like this, why on earth is it so difficult that when two people go out for diner and make their orders, one almost has finished his meal while the other still waiting in spite of both staff in kitchen and resto know there's a couple dining. Last but not least, why did I have to wait more than 10 minutes before I got my change. When it finally comes I got a dozen or more 5 and 10 peso coins and a bunch of 20 peso banknotes as wrinkled as can be.
Even when my food was tasteful, not sure will give it another try.

Couple updates. Last night, mostly cuz of posts here, we tried Andy's Grill, hidden in the residential area near robinson's .... WOW, had a steak, if the other dishes are as good as that and the Hunter's Steak, Andy's will be a regular spot. Small, but very good.

Note, we rarely make reservations, unlike California, where it's a chore. See story below after serious stuff, and GK, the cut up napkins i've heard, is some barato's (cheapskate's) idea of saving money, DCDWI (Dumaguete City, Deal With It). I think whoever told me that was serious...

By the way, i'm starting a movement (so far, only one person). I've heard all sorts of excuses about "out of stock," from VENDOR to INATTENTIVE MANAGER to "EVERYTHING COMES FROM CEBU," but with so many new good restaurants, i'm going to cut (not eliminate) my visits drastically to places where half the menu is "out of stock" way-too-often. Owners beware, i've heard that many restaurant owners simply don't buy stuff because they're too cheap to tie up funds in inventory. If that's true, they will eventually lose me and other customers. Time to find another business if that's the case, or redo ur menu. .

Short story but typical of california, my previous residence. Hot new restaurant opens, decide to make a reservation just to try it out, at 70 yrs old not something we did often. Called, "sorry, but we are booked for the next six weeks." I said, "what the hell, i'll take something in the 7th week." Restaurant: "sorry, but we only take reservations 6 weeks in advance..." Never went there in the next decade, it closed. Pretentious jerks. Typical, one reason i'm here, no longer there.. <grin>...

Thank you for the kind words. Always happy to hear suggestions and even complaints. And yes we added SML and will be looking at adding Pilsen and a few more things within the next few days to a week. Currently only have a small ref but hoping to have another this weekend allowing a larger variety. Our menu will also be expanding as we are able to shortly especially figuring out a couple rice meals.

So far we are just 1 1/2 weeks old and a small location yet happy to be getting as much business as we can. We really aim to provide good quality food at affordable prices to both local and foreigner tastes.

Went to this new Mexican restaurant yesterday. Very nice. Menu is good, service is good. Very different preparation from Senoritas. This food comes out already spiced up and you can add more if you want to. It was not overly spiced which was nice. Portions are just right, we eat rather lightly so got the remainder for take out. Had the enchiladas. Wonderful. We are rather lucky to have two very good Mexican restaurants to chose from whose food, while similar, is somewhat different. They also served wine, which was okay, not an expert on wines, just know what I like and don't like.

Would definitely eat there again and try something different on the menu. They also have some Filipino favorites, the wife has the Sig Sig and she loved it.

I had lunch at Los Mariachis yesterday (during brownout).
They had a small genny running and the ac was working. I'm not an expert on Mexican food but I really enjoyed the Enchiladas with guacamole and refried beans. The service was very good - friendly, quick and they asked if I was happy with the food. Beer was cold, and they brought complimentary corn chips. Surprisingly little noise from the traffic. The place is clean and bright - a little bare looking at the moment but the owner says that's a work in progress.
All in all, it's a pleasant little place, good food, good value and excellent staff.

Just a note... A few friends and I went for another fun day at Bambulo last Saturday. The staff were all smiles and very attentive, beer was nice and cold, the pizza was delicious with just a tint of smoke flavor, good music and wifi at our table. My daughter and others went for a swim in the crystal clear pool's. Entrance is only P80 and that includes swimming and or miniature golf, free if you don't swim or swing a club.

Then the real fun started! We gave our ladies a beer or two then a putter and ball, we only had 1 rule and that was no rules.... Wow what a great day, can't wait to do it again.....

Tried it out today. They don't offer loaf/sliced bread, which I find disappointing, but gf picked up some bread from there today (P65). She said there were 3 types available 1) baguette 2) "a brown kind" (I'm guessing wheat or rye bread) and 3) "this kind, I don't know the name" (I'm guessing a sourdough?). Whatever it is I'm eating right now it's much better than the stuff you find at the local bakeries and it's certainly not loaded with sugar.

Me and the wife tried Spice the other day; the food came out very quick. The wife had a pasta dish with shrimp...loaded with shrimp. I had an Indian curry dish, usually don't pay attention when a menu item says it is spicy as most are not close to spicy; this one brought the heat. Very impressed with the service and quality/quantity of the dishes.

We don't find many reasons to go to Valencia but any future trips this is the place we will grab some food.

    Shawn

Visited Sideways for the first time about 2 weeks ago about 2pm.
Incredibly cold beer! Friendly staff n nice environment.
Wife ordered pulled beef sandwich n I had fish n chips. Hate to say it, but it was the worst "fish-n-chips" I've ever had including frozen TV dinners! Wife's pulled beef was likewise a disappointment! Very sweet n flavorless except for ketchup?
Except for a cold beer, will probably never stop there again!
Bamboo Bob's a few kms further is far superior!
