Sounds more like a guy that has absolutely no control over how much alcohol he consumes (alcoholism) than a worried husband. A worried husband would not have left the recovery room to go self-medicate his depression/worry with alcohol if the situation was so dire.
Uh huh.
Here is my basic understanding of alcoholism (aka drug addiction):
The guy sounds like he has a serious drinking problem if he is drinking so much that he passes out in a restaurant and starts vomiting on himself and the table. Chances are he was an older man....if wisdom truly does come with age then he should have known that drinking yourself d*mn near into a coma won't do a d*mn thing to cure your anxiety/depression nor will it help your wife recover any faster (it will probably do the opposite since she is sitting in the hospital by herself worried what happened to her husband that just went out for a bite to eat). So, IMHO, he is either an alcoholic, a moron.....or both.

I am not surprised to hear you are disappointed. black coffee, overpriced, like every Starbucks on earth. No reason to waste money there, bagels or not. I try to avoid all these chains spreading out like pest.

- Thread: Pasta King
Went to Pasta King a couple of weeks ago arriving at 11:50 a.m. for lunch. Asked for lasagna to give it another try as the last time it was dismal. The answer this time , " No Stock". That's it for us. Have tried it 4 times with the current owner. It is sad to say the least. Penny wise and pound foolish. Cutting quality, very noticeable, and serving size, not that we are big eaters at all but none the less. If they are trying to run the place totally out of business they are doing a good job of that. We used to go there often with the previous ownership.

It is owned by a Swiss National. How that can be ? Strange question. You call yourself a RPlongtymer, which I don't really believe. Or else the Y-not Restaurant is only one you know in Duma. Because Y-not has probably one of the best waiters in town. That doesn't mean it's high class compared with western standards. But I know for sure at the Y-not a waitress doesn't' just get a full time job easily. They have to work as a trainee for a considerable time before they get fully employed. Me and a lot of people like the place. The staff is very polite and helpful. But over the years we have noticed that some low class expats treat them like underdogs. So in other words: THE WAY YOUR TREAT OTHERS IS HOW OTHERS WILL TREAT YOU.

- Thread: Breakfast at Arbour
We went this morning to Arbour restaurant at Hibbard Avenue and had a very delicious breakfast.
Paying a visit to Arbour Restaurant was on my list since a pretty long time but for no reason it never happened. Finally we made it today and for sure it won't be the last time.
It started with a very warm welcome by the owner and his staff. During our stay we enjoyed really good service, fast and very friendly. The restaurant is air-conditioned what gives you a comfortable surrounding to really enjoy your food.
My wife's choice was the Signature Breakfast, I went for the German Breakfast. Both offered a great selection of ham, various types of Salami, scrambled and boiled eggs, various sorts of cheese, eggplants in a delicious tomato sauce, freshly baked bread, homemade butter and jam. All came at high quality standard.
I really don't know another place in Dumaguete where you can find this quality of food and service.
It was an overall great dining experience and for sure we will come back. Today we had only breakfast but Arbour offers very nice lunch as well and for sure we will be back for dinner.
By the way:
On 7th of October Arbour will celebrate "Octoberfest" in their beer garden.
Homemade beers and typical food is waiting for you. We will certainly not miss it.-

When it rains it pours. From so-so southeast asian (other than Philippine) to several greats. The newest is Soowan Asian, with food built around several southeast Asian cuisines.
It's hard to do "fusion" cuisines, because you either do one thing well or none at all. Soowan has managed this difficulty quite nicely. Thanks to the young woman chef, whose background includes working at Atmosphere and Salaya resorts, she has confected a convincingly authentic menu of Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese food. Parking in front of cozy/comfortable, clean dining room. Excellent food priced competitively with restos on the Blvd. Must eat to believe!
Up from Silliman Med Cntr, Soowan is 100 meters west of the Hi-Point Vehicle Emission Test Center at National Hwy and Aldecoa, at the Blue Horizon Hotel. One theory is that the shrinkage of staffs at closed restaurants has encouraged a few good chefs to break out on their own, joining the couple dozen great restaurants in and around Dumaguete. a little highlight in Dumaguete, a close to authentic Chinese Szechuan restaurant, they cook more spicy dishes in this region of China, and so they do here. Nice open ambience in one of the older buildings in town, located in San Juan street near Silliman / boulevard. Plenty of dishes on the menue card that you find nowhere else incl. some filipino dishes, moderate prices, huge portions, so far any order was good for two. Wife liked the seafood, mussels, pork very much, I was also very happy with all kinds of meat, not tried the Hot Pot yet (but I will) nor the innards (I never will). short waiting time until orders arrived. a place I really recommend with full heart and stomach.

- Thread: Katz's
Had lunch at Katz's yesterday. Great menu. We had the grilled chicken burger, lettuce, tomato, onion, whatever condiments you want to add. Served with very good potato salad. Will go back and try the pepper cheese burger next. Big open environment with plenty of tables.

- Thread: Anniversary Dinner
Last night we celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at G's new French restaurant, 'Imagination', on the beach in Bacong. While what looked liked three attractive sisters softly playing a violin, a harp, and a cielo, we ordered a Kir Royale for my wife and a Grey Goose martini for me while we viewed the large menu. G came over and told us he will prepare a gourmet dinner and not to worry. We started with a small serving of escargot for my wife and scampi for me, with a glass of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc. That was followed by a bowl of lobster bisque with cognac. For the salad they served a combination of fresh vegetables from Baguio. Next was a serving of Dover Sole G had flown in for the event followed by a small order of delicious New Zealand lamb chops. G surprised us by bringing out a bottle of 1996 Henschke Hill of Grace. For the main course my wife was served Alaska King Crab Legs and G had prepared a Porterhouse steak for me from the U.S. Dessert was a sampling of Belgium chocolates. Not being concerned about calories on this special evening, G brought over a bottle of chilled Irish Cream and sat with us and toasted the occasion. A wonderful dinner with my lovely wife.
