Good morning shabbynomad70 , I'm not 77 , I'm actually 68. 50 or so years ago, when I started training as a commis chef ( I'm still learning ) , after work my fellow trainees and I would visit a local hostelry for a beer or two. It was The Crown, the address escapes me at the moment. On the bar was a sign which I never forgot..
"This HOUSE is dedicated towards those splendid FELLOWS who make DRINKING a pleasure, who reach CONTENTMENT before CAPACITY and who, whatever the DRINK, can take it, hold it and STILL be GENTLEMEN ".
Pub etiquette was very different back then, most pubs, not all, were pleasant, respectable and respectful . Respectful whereby swearing in front of a man's wife, or indeed any woman, was a mistake. sometimes a dangerous mistake. Unfortunately this is all lost in the mists of time and these days the conversations I hear are loaded with expletives.
We are a humble establishment but not so humble that I don't check for families or folks that are looking uncomfortable in these circumstances. If so I would quietly tell ( not ask ), the aforementioned characters to show respect and possibly find some self respect , or leave.
Just recently an English 'gentleman' has decided to frequent Zak's Place, he's cheap, demanding, and noisily foul mouthed. I'm aching to find a solid reason to rid the place of him. I hope he reads this as he will know.
My mindset hasn't changed from 50 years ago.

I finally made it to Spices for lunch. I enjoyed the yellow chicken curry and recommend it. I had a fruit shake that was also very good. They were out of many Indian dishes but told me the ingrediants will arrive soon and I will try out the Marsala when they arrive. I had the naan bread instead of rice.
The restaurant was spotless, three wall fans were on, and a nice breeze flowing through the open windows. Service was excellent.
I saw a refrigerator with plenty of cold beer. They also have wine from Australia and Chili.
So it is great to have a spicey-food restaurant here.- Informative x 4

with homemade beefburgers and homemade bread baked more than once a day.
Just before Christmas the fish almost doubled in price, it stayed the same at Zak's Place.
There is no fish today as there's none in the market.
How do I know ?

And Yesterday evening I was the first time there for the Saturday Night Jam Sessions, that means Musicians on a very high level from different countries ( Austria, Scotland U.S.of A.....) make in the best Jam Session Tradition very good NEW versions of music everybody knows, everybody likes!
And even me, who doesnt like "Old Musik" or even Cover Band Music at all was very impressed about that good feeling what that musicians there produce!
My absolute highlight yesterday was the version of that very old Spencer Davis Hit "I,m a man"- thought before that the Band Chicago made the very best version out of it, but since yesterday night I know: That was a mistake, cause the best version ever I heard yesterday night in GRUMPY's played from a very good Blues/RnR-Gitarrist, a very, very skillful Bassguitarist and a Saxophone Genius from the U.S,of A!
Beside that I had before an extraordinary meal!

If you have not gone to the spice restaurant in Valencia I highly recommend it, they serve up some very good indian, thai, and western cuisine. And if you ever heard the expression it is so clean you can eat of the floor then this is the place.
