Wanted to give a big "thanks" to Crystalhead and TANJAY CITY ROCKS ON TUBE for helping out with getting a (very generous) forum sponsor package! I've already put the money towards Dumaguete Info's Digital Ocean (hosting) account/credit.
Really can't express how much it is appreciated!

Feel free to start another thread about it if you like but remember that the guy was just arrested, not convicted (yet). You should offer him the same courtesy you expect others to give your friend. And let's leave the derogatory use of "homosexual" out of the thread. (I read it as derogatory given your, understandable, disdain for the man but I could be wrong. If that wasn't your intentions disregard.)
Back on topic: Were there any updates on the drug related case this thread is about? Is Jim still sitting in jail/prison?
Let the courts do their thing. EJKs are a scourge in this country that shouldn't be promoted.-

I think to level the playing field on this debate, there is one criteria that should be front and center, and that is “do you have money”? If so, there are hundreds of places one would rather retire in.
On the other end of the scale, if you come here with insufficient retirement funds, broke or too small pension, Dumaguete may not meet your expectations or work for you, unfortunately.
The class of guys who have enough for a semi-comfortable life style and don’t require a heavy dose of night life seem to be content here. Some even “live the dream” with a place on the beach.
You can’t stop progress, Dumaguete will continue to grow and suffer the growing pains. Third World countries can’t afford to build the Infrstructure ahead of the growth.-

- Thread: Bambulo
Went there this afternoon and it turned out to be a mistake from both side.
One item on the bill was not in accordance as priced on the menu and I thought that what I did order for diner was lower priced than in reality. It was pure coincidence this caused a difference of 160 peso, reason why the link to the entrance fee was easy to made.
So they definitely did not charge entrance fee.
Should I have checked the bill more secure the correction could have been made right away.
Well everybody knows how it goes sometimes when you get the bill, in a glance you take a look if all items on it have been ordered without taking further notice to each item individually about the price. Sometimes I do, but this time I did not.
The staff and I could both laughed how it happened.
They refund me the difference. I ordered 2 drinks, had a chit chat with the owner before I went home again.
Going back there again for sure.-

Sounds to me that you are in for a miserable life. If I were you I would take another serious look at what I am doing. "Going after the Äuthorities" in the Philippines is not to be recommended amigo, Bad idea!

Nothing wrong with letting them know of your displeasure. Many times it is not about what you say, it's more how you say it.

I do not do any of the dealing here mate, all is done by my Wife or the Family. I have learnt to stay away from any place with a point of sale due to how wildly the price fluctuates, in fact it was my Wife who insisted I stay at home when she goes across the to the markets because everything went up crazy in price as soon as it was known she was married to a foreigner. I do not pretend to understand it, I live with the Family here under the one roof, 8 Adults and 7 kids as well as myself in a Filipino Nipa House, I live eat and breathe the same as they do, side by side. No running water, no Air-con, hand pump from the Well and hand wash our Clothes as well as shower from a Pail and a pitcher for the CR. A simple life, which I dearly love and would never give up to go back to the West again, ever. As for Tips, I do generously tip those who do anything for me as well as pay for anything done for me, it is little to me but a big help to them, so at times if I must create something for them to do when they are in need, then I do, it is not a hand out as they are too proud to accept a hand out. Doing something for something is a matter of pride and something I understand as I have never in my life been in a position of wealth myself, until I came here to be surrounded by my new Family. You can find no better wealth than Family or a true friend, both of which is in abundance here. That is what I love about the Philippines.-

Diving without a horn in the Philippines is almost suicidal. I use mine all the time and won't ride that bike/vehicle if it isn't working. Quick double horn tap is almost universally used in the Philippines to mean, "I'm coming up on you, don't do something stupid."
3 or more quick honks usually means, "I'm driving fast and in a hurry. Don't do something stupid."
A long horn honk either means, "f*ck you" or, "prepare for a collision".
Horn honks are a courtesy to dumdums with p*ss poor driving skills. It lets these idiots know someone is coming up on them.-

While I partially agree with what you state.
The 65,000 baht must be deposited into a Thai bank account every month for 12 months in order to be eligible for an extension. The days of getting a letter from the embassy are long over. The deposits must show proof of being a foreign transaction. That is to prevent anyone from withdrawing money from the ATM and depositing it into their account. Also, no buddy systems. (two people transferring funds on each other's behalf to meet eligibility)
Comparing Manila Air Quality to Bangkok is kind of a stretch. But, if you look at an Air Quality Map of Thailand you will see that almost 80% of it is below standards. Standards in the north are actually rated as dangerous by the World Health Organization.
As far a food goes. The best Thai food I have ever had was in a Thai Restaraunt in the states. Having lived in Thailand off and on since 1972, I have never figured out why people say the food is so good. Most of it isn't as far as I'm concerned. But to each his own.
I totally agree with you as far as the internet goes. Thailand has great internet if you are willing to pay for it. The low-cost internet is probably no better than the Philippines. The internet in Thailand doesn't go out that often, but the power does. So, hey............................ I lived in the Philippines before. Really enjoyed it. But, at the time I thought Thailand was the better option and for a while I was right. But, since the coup and the government takeover and the ridiculous immigration rules I no longer feel that way. They are pretty much showing they no longer need or want expats.-

I understand your feelings, but there are other places that are much worse.
I was in Bacolod for 8 years and it went down hill fast. If you like gold maybe that is for you since that is about all it has to offer.
I felt about Bacolod as you feel about Dumaguete. I moved here. Went to a cardiologist for a regular check up and he prescribed a new blood pressure medicine because my old one was to strong. It was the climate and stress from Bacolod to Dumaguete.
It is all up to the individual as to what is acceptable. I enjoy walking all over town, don't need to drive, although I do own a car for trips back to Bacolod for the wife's family visits.
You want trash and filth, try walking around San Francisco or New York City. I am sure there are places you describe all over the world. No one is exempt from not taking care of where they live.
I sincerely hope you find a place you enjoy and can say it is better than the place you left like I do. I love it here and accept the little problems and hope they don't enlarge.
When I was in the military for my 25 years there was always a saying. There were only two good assignments. The one you were moving to, and the one you just left. There is something good about everything if yu take the time to see it and quit complaining.-
