You're being sarcastic I'm sure.
But they actually are some of the smarter people I know. Much smarter than many Westerners. In fact, here in the States, Filipinos are all wealthy people with really good jobs.
The Filipinos that are in PI are not stupid people at all. They are ignorant, but that doesn't mean they are stupid. There is a difference.

My Attorney who deals in Land matters has insisted that once we (my Wife) gain the Title in hand, she will draw up a Will between my Wife and I to protect both our interests in the event we either separate or one of us passes away.
As explained to me; if my Wife passes away before myself, then I will inherit the Land, but only until such time as I either transfer it into our Daughter's name, or sell it to recover my outlay. I will not own the Land even via Inheritance, it only buys me a set amount of time to transfer or dispose of the land to another Filipino as I am a Foreigner and cannot legally own the Land.
If our Daughter passes also and I am the only surviving person, then I will Inherit the Property, but I must dispose of the land to another Filipino and have a certain period of time to do so otherwise I will lose it. That is how I interpreted what was relayed to myself and my Wife via our Attorney.-

Easy to say when it's not your house.
This is about a single tree being in the way of the landing strip and not a house but.......if it were your house would you foot the bill to buy a new lot, build a new house, move your existing business and then move everything to the new location? FYI: your family owned the property long before any airport was even planned and ever since they decided to land jets at the airport you house has been taking damage from planes landing.....and the tree is the only thing keeping the planes from doing further damage to your house (because the government/airport won't pay out a dime to you to cover damages caused by the jets or to relocate your house).
I don't think the problem is the tree, it's that the government/airport has been negligent in covering their legal/financial responsibilities to the land owner. I remember when this first came out last year. The land owner made several comments in the media comments section and I think he has a very valid argument:
Comments from property owner found on this article "Disqus - Stubborn lot owner forcing CAAP hands to downgrade Dumaguete Airport "
and
There are two sides to every story.....and when the Philippines government gives a story I tend to believe the exact opposite of what they are saying.-

- Thread: Very new to Dumaguete
I like your honesty. After viewing your site (good job!) I have no doubt your will back up your words with actions.
However, I'm sure people will figure out if Dumaguete is for them on their own. They'll see the trash and the other problems. They'll likely travel to other places and make their own comparisons. No need to bash the place in a thread where people are asking for information. Better to simply answer the questions. Otherwise we might as well copy and paste your reply automatically to everyone with a "New Here" thread. We can at least represent Dumaguete in the best light and let new arrivals make their own decisions from there. And it's not like we're all making a sales job on how clean and beautiful Dumaguete is. Go ahead and call BS where you see it, but we're pretty good here about keeping it real.

As an older expat and 8 year resident, I would beg to disagree with you, Midniterider. Strongly. Only problem is, I’m not sure I can. Are you being too harsh? Maybe. The medical facilities here may not be as bad as you imply, but if I were to contract any major illness, I’d get myself back to the States, pronto if I could. As for the rest of your points, there’s definitely something to be said for all of them. I still like living here, a lot – otherwise I wouldn’t be here, but I think your post is worthy of consideration for anyone planning on relocating to these parts. The remedy, I believe, is to take it slowly, step by step. Forget burning your bridges back home, sending a dozen balikbayan boxes of stuff you may not need or be able to use, obtaining a permanent resident visa – just be here awhile, rent, don’t buy anything you don’t have to buy – then see how you like it, and decide for yourself whether or not you agree with Midniterider.

Just got back from a day trip to Cebu. It's like pre-covid at the port. Drive down, buy a ticket and drive on. Both ways. No documentation required whatsoever.

Blackout/brownout...who really cares terminology, bottom line no one is happy when there is an outage. I've have not been to one of the substations to look at relay settings for their breakers. But guessing I would think that there has been rain lately so vines, trees and critters could be a reason for unscheduled outages...even tracking from dirty insulators that went to ground.
Speculation obviously but it does seem like there are less outages than even a couple years ago so hopefully with the slow infrastructure upgrades to their medium voltage lines will help the unscheduled outages. Scheduled outages will continue for the maintenance and the replacement of poles/lines that I've seen. Still sucks but it is what it is here.

- Thread: FUNERAL,BURIAL COSTS
From the date and time of death you have 24 hours to have the body cremated which will be 45,000 pesos at the Chinese cemetery at the back of the Capitol. The crematorium will not except the body after the 24 hours if the body is not embalmed. That is their rules like it or not.
Sadly I know cuz I have just cremated my good American Amigo RIP mate-
