Been reading this thread with growing amazement. Why in hells bells name would an expat need a Senior Citizen discount card?? I can understand why a large number of elderly locals need something like that, but an expat of 65+?? Get real!

Before you get upset, this is just my experience... My personal experience. Your milage may vary. So, don't get offended or anything.

    --
If you can't find love in Thailand, don't waste your time in the Ph doing the same... I saw Rye83's post and agree with that. And have some firsthand experience with it :(

I've been here 3+ years, I've dated a whole bunch of girls/women, some where live-in girlfriends for months... Others lasted a few dates and some where nothing more than fuckbuddies.
None were sincere or for real or suitable for various reasons.

I've dated country girls, city girls, bar girls, students. Even a few who turned out to be hookers trying to find love... with or without a job. With and without education. With or without religion/family... They're all of the same generic mindset as far as I can tell.

Either their shitty family was in the way, or their greed and hunger for money. Or their attitude was sh*t.
Tons of young/middle ages women have atleast 1 kid.
Most have debt or obligations you don't want to be involved in too much.
Others were just too stupid to have a decent conversation with and couldn't think beyond talking about the weather and wishing they had rice and chicken for dinner.

It's just not worth the hassle...

As a rule I always sought after a adventurous woman who likes to go for a ride with me on a motorbike. All got homesick after a week or so - Which is a chore after a few weeks. And downright depressing after a few months.

If they had a job, the attitude and haughty bullshit struck time and time again. While leaning on my generosity.

Call me extremely unlucky, but that's how it was for me...
I'm sure there are better women out there. But I didn't find any. I gave up and am done with the Philippines in general, just because the people are so unbearable. Leaving the country soon.

But be warned, try not to end up like me

All they have to do is set up a checkpoint 100m either side of a cockpit 10 minutes the fights have stated and check all vehicles within the zone. Of course they would require the army to be there, to quell the riot that would ensue.

    I don't know.
Well Sir, I'm sure that you will be correct you usually are in your writings here (Fecking Smart Alex) it is highly likely they will touch on all the subjects you mention on an Architects Course there in PH as in the rest of the world and likely as you say it may well be in their final exams where the system falls short, I'm sure if they do well in the exam section where it concerns their Singing, Dancing and Clapping of hand skills, this is all that is required to Pass? An Architect is not a fully-fledged Engineer and the reason why their drawing have to be signed off by an engineer in order to gain planning permission, my own experience with both of these professionals did not go all that well. My house is completely bespoke to that of the standard CHB house there, our Architect was a relative of my partner as soon as he received my basic plan, he phoned me up to ask me, what is a Monolithic Slab? (This is a raft slab sometimes known as a floating slab without any foundation and well suited to building in PH with the risk of Quakes) he said he had never heard of this before, a quick search on Google was all he needed to find this out, however he drew up the plans and included foundations to parts of it and defeated the objective of this type of slab, there was a few other things that he had wrong and I had to have my plans amended with the original engineer involved, when I approached him to have this done I had to meet him in the car Park of Robinsons Mall? I had made a model of my intended house build, as soon as he looked at it, he started to shake his head telling me he knows nothing about structures of this nature, but he would do it provided I paid him a large sum of money, eventually I had my amended plans back now signed off by another Engineer? they only made one small change to the original plans this was an easy fix for them, they just doubled up the dimensions of the steel from the sizes on the original plan, it had now become uneconomical to build this using their idea, also the suggested sizes were not readily available there and this would have to be a special order, so I just went ahead and did it My Way, Feck them and the Horse they rode in on. It would appear to be a well-known fact that once any house building plans are passed there, you can go on with the build and do whatever you want as long as the house ends up close to the original dimensions.

I have not noticed any difference between the Silly Season and the rest of the year here quite frankly, regarding erratic driving -:rolleyes:

MKKS meats near the Dumaguete cockpit (across from Citi Hardware has Tenderloin from Brasil.
It's just under 800 Peso/Kg and you have to buy the whole tenderloin which is about 2 Kg.
Sometimes they has Texas beef at a little higher price.

The Brasil meat can be a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it is tender and sometimes a little tough. When it's tough I just cut it to strips and stir fry it.
One time I bought a rib eye roast and it was okay, the next time it was too tough to describe.

Overall I would rate MKKS as good with the occasional, Oh Crap.

I am not sure any driving is safe here at night, even though I do it many nights of the week. Since i live in Bacong, I totally am familiar with the lack of lights on motorcycles (about 10 % no lights, another 25% with no rear light, and then the trikes with no lights also).
The key is not to drive as you drove in your mother country. I drive a motorcycle exclusive because of the maneuverability in avoiding things like 4 or 5 people walking abreast on the pavement in their darkest attire at night. The Bacong to Valencia road is full of those type of situations, while on the national hiway the number of people seem to be limited to one or two. Maybe the bigger lines of people were walking abreast have been picked off already by the car drivers who can not avoid them as easy as motorcyclist can.
The easiest way to stay safe is to drive with your eyes wide open as if you mother-in-law was out to get you or maybe you GF's husband. Focus on everything because if a motorist does not get you a dog will drive you off the road.
There really is no safe place to drive at night here except your driveway. I was once coming home to Bacong at about 2:30 AM with almost no cars on the road, to come upon two cars that had run head on while on the national hiway. My first thought it was a suicide assassination attempt, or a drunk. Turn outs the rumor was one driver had fallen asleep but the possibility of two cars running head on to each other on a almost empty hiway is amazing to me.

Watch the cars and motorcycles around you and notice erratic driving that may indicate a drunk driver. There will be a lot of drunks on the road in the coming "merry" season. Just drive as if you are in a demolition derby and you want to win by avoidance.

Because they needed an excuse? Nothing has really changed, just the realization, to the few that didn't already know, that none of the rules actual matter nor are they ever enforced. Overstayed you visa? Not a problem. No drivers license? No problem. No registration? No problem. Smoke in town? No problem. No helmet? No problem. No money? Now THAT is a problem.

I know it's too late in your particular case, but when I renewed my UK passport very recently I used JRS Express. Cost no different to what you quoted and was received in Liverpool around 5 working days later. I have always used them - no waiting around as is the norm with LBC and the guy that does the paperwork is impressively fast!
