To compare Phuket with Dumagute is not fair.

Tourism in Phuket is very large and in Dumaguete very small.
Phuket International Airport operate about 60 different airlines around the clock and 30 flights per hour.
    Only from China 32 destinations.
35.000 tourist visit Phuket every day.
With that number of tourist you get more shopping malls to visit.
Locals can’t support so many shopping malls

The small number of people paying income tax is a problem for Dumaguete, not money enough for new roads and mostly foreigner doesn’t pay tax as well.

Philippines are a poor country compared with Thailand. Only half the income per capita.

No one implied that he did not smoke up all of his profits as is usually the case in "middle level dealers" they just can afford to have a stash bigger than most street addicts. This drug creates misery and suffering to people who have barely a chance to live a life of any substance much less a productive one, not to mention the wives and children who have to "go along for the ride". All of this from a man who had a better chance in life by being born in a "first world country" but choose to come here and add to the suffering. No.... no sympathy here...

That reminds me of chapter 2 of my story. When I left Robinsons I wanted to go past downtown to Neva's Pizza. I don't like to catch a trike at Robinsons as I find they gouge foreigners for higher prices so i walked out the side entrance and caught one on the street by Citi Hardware.

I asked if he was going near Neva's Pizza. He had one other passenger and said "sure" so I hopped in. When we got there, I figured it would be 10 from Robinsons to downtown and another 10 from downtown to Neva's Pizza. So I was going to give him 20. Then I saw that it was already after dark and I had read that fares are double at night so I pulled out 2 20's and gave them to him.

His reply: "No sir, you have given too much. 20 pesos is enough thank you." And he returned one of the 20s. Goes to show how one trike driver is so much different than another.

I have been liveing and driveing here for about 16 months now and comeing from the wide open spces of Australia it was quite a lot of adjustment...........yes it is crazy driveing here like most asian countries but I have accepted that and really take my time and be aware of the lunatics both local and foreign...............I drive down from Liptong/Valencia a couple of times a week for shopping and eating out in resturants and usually find a shade park in Robinsons to prk my little suzuki van and catch a motor taxi into town if need to go into town and as a few people have mentioned here is that no amount of complaining will change the attitudes and conditions...........so I guess it is either adapt and accept or go back where we come from.

Hope you find a place where you are happy. Sacrifices definately have to be made living here. If one can rise above that and live out of town it can be comfortable for some of us.

It seems being killed for having a job in journalism is more common here than you might think, as a search online will show. There is the case of 34 journalists killed in the 2009 Maguindanao massacre.

Bob Martin who lived in Davao for almost 30 years and owned a website advising expats, always said "It is not a Paradise in the Philippines" and he did that to counter the positive input from people who considered only the upside (I just read a few days ago of an expat excitedly recommending life in Manila where he lives for $600 a month!). Without getting into the amount he says he lives on in Manila, visiting many restaurants etc, as that has been covered here many times, there was no mention of litter, pollution from other sources, stray dogs, crime, etc. So many reports seem to avoid the negative.

So people need to know, so they can make a balanced judgement. It is a country where killing is too common and too often unpunished (that, of course, is one reason it is common!). Another very recent report is the killing by a group of gunmen of a 16 year old girl in Iloilo!

So articles on 'Living in the Philippines' also need to look at it from the angle of 'Living' (as in 'staying alive' in the Philippines).

Two Filipinos were arrested in Bacong last night and ended up in the local jail. They out after the 9:00 pm and they didn't have a QP.
are pretty serious charges. A person has to be pretty stupid to think they are that special. My guess is this guy will end up in Bicutan which is the foreigner jail near Manila (Hell on Earth is what I've heard).
Very true, there is some prejudice toward some foreigners and you can thank this guy for making it worse.

Locked Rotor Amps, sometimes abbreviated LRA, is exactly what the name implies. If the rotor is locked and can't move while electrical power is applied, the motor will draw this many amps. Locked Rotor Amps are much higher than running amps, generally around five times max running amps.

    full-load-amperage

This value can also sometimes be referred to as: Running Amps, Rated Amps, or just AMPS. ... For motors with a service factor of 1.0, drawing substantially more current than its rated-full-load-amperage indicates an overload situation.

If you can understand the above you will understand what I am about to explain to you here.

If you place an amp probe in the circuit of any motor you will get these kinds of AMP READINGS.

    1. The motor is not turning (it is off). You power it up, (plug it in). The amps WILL momentary spike to Locked Rotor Amps and immediately drop back to its run amps.

    2. You as a domestic user will not notice that very small bump in amps because of its very short duration in that spike and the fact that your motor load is also very small.

    3. If you are a large commercial user like a machine shop or say a mall you MIGHT see a spike in your bill.

    4. Here is where the money comes in; Add all the motors in the entire system both big and small. There will be a very large spike in the load at the power plant, (in amps), amps is money to the power producers.

    5. Now you do the math. ALL of US will share in that spike in amps one way or another, $.

Just in case you were wondering. I owned and operated an Air conditioning service company for 18 years. You can not run an Air conditioning service company with out an extensive knowledge in both electricity and pluming. I got most of that knowledge by attending UAA for 4 years. UAA = University of Alaska Anchorage.

The biggest complaint tourists have is traffic. Many tourists like to walk. If there is no space for more cars and more parking then make more ways to walk. Make wide sidewalks and give the death penalty to any motorcyclist or vehicle operator who drives or parks on those sidewalks. Turn the city into a futuristic city where people get off their asses and walk. No vehicle of any kind on sidewalks (except and only exception being wheelchairs).

    That's my comment :bag:

Well; when the other "one of those guys" end up having problems, their fortunate 'other' takes the ring to L'Huillier to pawn it. You may get a good deal there AND you will know its pawn value for future reference
