Traffic was gridlock before this attempt at 1 way streets was implemented. Give it a chance, I have seem way worse in smaller cities here.
Pick your travel times (shopping etc) very early and if you have any sense of direction you will have done the mall, HyperMart gone to the bank and are at home having a beer before 11am. If you can't get your daily duties finished by then???? Maybe you need a exit visa and a 6 lane highway where you came from???

I'm no expert, but in my limited experience there are a couple things in play. The average Filipino lives on a lot less than you do, so if you want to see all the savings trying living like they do. Most expats are not looking to do that. There are several threads on this forum about how much it costs to retire in the Philippines you may want to look at. In my experience, most manufactured products, cereal, cars, tools are more expensive, with the exception of some cheap Chinese knockoffs and medicines. The only thing that is significantly cheaper is human labor. I can get a guard or a driver for significantly less there than in the US. Most people probably compare where they are coming from to where they are going, so it's not a I'm in the cheapest place, but my annual spend is less than where I came from. Perspective makes a huge difference. The are also other criteria as you mention above.

Using strong language doesn't exactly help to convince people to join your apparent disapproval of monarchies.
Yes, monarchies are relics of the past, but any time would be a better time than now to discuss the supposed benefits of a republic.

"Made him"? Did she have a gun pointed at his head? :meh: Not that he should have much concern with having a gun aimed at the head on his shoulders.....he obviously wasn't using that one to do much thinking.
Did she pack up the house he built for her and run away with that as well? Since there is no mention of it being sold I would bet it wouldn't be too hard to find her.

I'd be curious to see a timeline of when all this stuff actually happened. Did he start building the house for her before they even met in person?

    A fool and his money...

    I don't know.
My favorite is the Filipina Pea "Telling it like it is".

She covers the expat filipina relationship issues well. She has also done interviews with her friend who is an attorney covering legal issues here.

    This is her YouTube Channel:

You can rent a room (boarding house) with x4 roommates for around P800 per month, you can get a furnished room with utilities paid for about P2k per month. If you are a normal person without any mental issues you would be far happier renting a room for yourself if the budget is tight. But if it is that tight you really shouldn't be moving to a country with absolutely zero social safety nets. A completely routine and treatable health issue can quickly become deadly if you lack the finances to pay the hospital.

You cannot work here on a tourist visa. It really sounds like you moving here would, in your current financial situation, be a horrible idea.

The libel and slander laws are a little odd here. If your words or print are intended to cause damage to a persons reputation or business you are guilty. It doesn't matter if your statement was true or not.

The are other strange legal things that apply here.

The other night a motorcycle was counter flowing and decided to cross over to his correct lane at the last second. The oncoming truck killed the motorcyclist. The truck driver was arrested and charged with reckless imprudence causing homicide. The motorcyclist had no OR/CR/License. The motorcycle had no lights according to witnesses.
That was doubly odd as not having a license immediately put a person in the wrong when there is an accident.

I looked up the term “damne” and suspect you may mean “dame” because damme is an archaic expression not referring to a person. Anyway, assuming you meant a Filipina woman, who is a citizen allowed to own land here, I would not do as you say; you are basically gifting her and potentially her heirs more than 23k USD that she gives you permission to use which can be revoked on a whim. This is true not only in the Phils but in many countries is Asia. If you were to marry the woman you would have a much better claim as “beneficial owner” of marital property where you could own it if she passes and her heirs wouldn’t have a claim. Of course, you should verify your particular situation with an attorney. Assuming marriage is not in the picture, you might wish to look at a long term lease using a knowledgeable attorney. You hear stories of foreigners getting married and the spouse legally or informally separating and selling the property with the foreigner losing everything. These stories may actually be true because the only way the foreigner can own land here is through legal inheritance by death of a spouse. If she (or the dame) is alive, you do not own anything. I wouldn’t do as you propose.
