Every 3 months I have been providing progress reports to help others if they have a stroke or more importantly as a reminder for others to stay healthy so they don't get zapped.
Unfortunately, after making significant gains, I haven't made much progress the last three months. I was hoping to take the next step up where my balance would be better and my right side paralysis would greatly approve, but I guess my expectations were not realistic. At my neurologist visit two weeks ago, she told me I will probably only get back to 70% of my former self. I am not there so will continue walking and working out to go for that target and try and exceed it.
Besides eating fish and chicken 90% of the time, I have been taking virgin coconut oil, psyllium, and Biospray all with positive results. And of course blood thinners and cholesterol meds, and 2 glasses of red wine.
Suggestion to others is to get a blood test annually and closely monitor your blood pressure and cholesterol level.

I realize that there is nothing written on the main site about buying property in Dumaguete or the Philippines. I would like to gather information on local laws concerning expats owning land (my thoughts have always been that it is simply not possible unless you own a corporation....and even with most corporations you can only own 40 percent of the business). I know there are businesses out there that do background checks on property titles and I've heard rumors that there are even lawyers out there you can "trust" to close a deal on a house (though I'm very skeptical on that one).

I'll be going through some of the older posts on the forum and see what I can throw together. I'm sure there is plenty already here to sort through. If you have any experiences, good or bad, I would like to hear them.

Personally, I would never recommend anyone to buy property here unless you have no family back home (or simply don't like them) and you are just wanting to make a generous donation to a Filipino family. If you can't put your name on it, and you can't in the Philippines, then it's nothing more than charity. The day they let me, a single childless expat, own 100 percent of the title is the day I buy a small lot and build a house. No amount of sweet talk, promised love or p*ssy will ever change my mind about that.

Thread locked. Pointless bickering, off topic, personal attacks, panties getting twisted, misuse of the post rating system. This should stop. I'll give the user causing most of these problems one last chance to fix this behavior before warning points are issued.

One point I usually make, to explain why I chose Dumaguete, is because it is not a sex tourism destination. Anyone seeking that will visit, but not stay long.

In addition to all that's been said already:
    1. traffic rules in the Philippines are pretty much the same as everywhere else,
    2. however, because there's so many without a drivers license (but still drive) and quite a few who have one but "bought it" (corruption anyone?) and
    3. because those traffic rules are mostly not enforced,
it is wise to live by only one rule here when driving: always assume all other drivers are bungol (deaf) and blind and don't know the rules.

If he got loud and started cursing at immigration because he did not know the rules then he got what he deserved. Only an ignorant fool would raise their voices at immigration in a foreign country.

Latest update: Light at the end of the tunnel!
All units now done, bar a few touch-ups to the paintwork inside. Carpenters put the final touches to the cabinets in the walk-in wardrobes this week as well. Two of our Bindoy guys spent the whole week laying the gravel footpaths, leveling the blot to prep for landscaping and shifting heaps of gravel manually for the car park. All done with a shovel and a 5 gallon paint drum in scorching heat. I take my hat off to them. I spent the week drilling holes and hanging curtains, pictures and mirrors in the first two units. Same to follow next week for the second two. Noreco now have the signed certificate of occupancy and will finally connect late next week probably. A big thank you to Dennis next door who allowed us to tap into his electric for the whole build basically. Pics taken today. Landscaper will lay grass in the near future as all topsoil (9 truck loads) now in situ. Native hut installed also - took 20 blokes to manhandle it off the truck into position. Wish I'd been there to record that! Going well.

For people that don't have saving a mountain of debt would be better than being 6 feet under.
The main advantage to having a credit card is the hospital can get their deposit right away. Imagine breaking a leg Friday evening and having to wait until the bank opens on Monday.
Sometimes families have to make a hard decision when it comes to a loved one. This isn't the only country where people face that problem.

The wife had a bad problem and I went to SUMC to inquire. They gave me a ticket for Dr Simon Flores, EENT specialist. Very good, great equipment and up to date. Also, he generates his prescriptions and everything else through his computer. Give him a shot. Hope you feel better soon.

He is also at Holy Child and NOPH.

    SUMC hours are Mon - Fri 10 - 12, then 2 - 4. Sat 10 - 12. Telephone 420- 2217.
