No 2 days are the same but they all start with waking up (hopefully) - around dawn. SO goes and tends to her orchids while I grab a coffee and get online for a couple of hours work then read the news, do the crossword and check out the UK horse racing results.

Asaswa's now in the kitchen making cakes or pies so I go for a wander round with the dogs (2 x Belgian Malligators) and have a word with the cows - at least they look as if they're listening. Back for a 2nd coffee.

Another hour or so of work then another meander - this time talk to the bull. If he looks mean or gets a hard-on I'm gone!

Lunch is a bowl of fruit and the afternoon could be pottering about in the veg garden deciding what to do/build/plant next or drive over to the farm and see how the grass is growing while the malli's get to swim in the river.

Afternoons are flexy, just do whatever suits the day but always finish it with an ice cold San Miguel with the boys.

Dinner is time to crack a bottle of red and put the world to rights.

We only need to hit the bright lights of Dumaguete every 8-10 weeks for shopping so normally make a weekend of it.

And that about sums it up - no clocks or watches, no real routine just take each day as it comes.

It's more laid back in Las Filipinas!

I too have these thoughts about my in laws and have said time and time and time again to my wife, that if I dont go 1st, I am not going to waste necessary funds that I will need for our two kids in the years ahead (I'm not a religious person), if you spend a lot of what you have now trying to keep and old person alive using what funds you have saved for your future, what are you going to do yourself when your worries came facts, this is no country to be walking past a bank and not being able to walk in, sure I have bought some medicines in the past and will of course again, but big big spends on in laws hospital stays and operations is a no no no (if hospitals or doctors see who is doing the paying, then be sure they will try to suck you dry)my wife and I have had several discussions/arguments about this, but as the years go by and she begins to see the things that us foreigners see and feel that is different in our cultures she too comments now on things before I do.

I guess what im saying in this tough tough time for you, not being so free with your money is not necessarily being greedy, I think that you are being very practical about it.

Not only a sad day for the United States but a sad day for the world to see what we have become and what we have learned from this..

Flew in from Guam-Manila-Cebu this past Friday. Relatively easy process; register with the One Health Pass, upload your negative test within 48 hours and put in your personal and flight info. Once you hit Manila they send you to a separate desk to scan the QR code the OHP emails you, check your vaccine card and they asked if I had travel insurance; I went to pull out a copy and they waived it off. Then off to immigration.

For the connecting flight they wanted to see the initial boarding pass as it gets stamped "verified". Driving back to Negros on Sunday was a breeze with nothing being checked for driving onto the ferry.

I'll be here until 5 April if anyone wants to reach out to grab a beer or something; have a few folks I need to reach out to as well once I get a handle on the to-do list that's been waiting on me for the past 26 months!

I am going to celebrate OLM today. No protest, no rioting, no looting. I will sit in the sun in my garden for 30 min. around 4:30 to activate the production of Vitamin D without getting sunburn. Then go in and text a couple of old friends here. Then have a few refreshments of my choice, then dinner with my family. Life is good.

    Hi Expats,

Got caught at a checkpoint with no helmet. (Yes, I know it is foolish not to wear a helmet.) They are starting to give tickets for no helmet in Dumaguete City. The fine is 1,500 1st offence. 3,000 2nd. 5,000 third. They take your drivers license. You have to go to the main LTO office and it takes about 3+ hours to pay the fine and get your license back. The office opens at 8 and there is a line of about 30 people at 7:30 am.

An Australian guy was given a fine 0f 5,000 because he was driving on his Australian drivers license and had been in the country for more than 3 months. So they gave him 3,000 for driving unlicensed, 1,500 no helmet and 460 I think for impound fee even though his bike had not been impounded. He was arguing but there is no sense getting angry. The law is the law and the LTO guy is just doing his job.

Moral of the story: Wear your helmet and keep your papers in order or take a tricycle. If you have been in the country less than three months, have a copy of your passport stamp. If you have been here longer than 3 months, go to the main LTO office and get your Philippine drivers license. It cost me about 850. Your foreign license should a have motorcycle permission. The default is just car permission. If you convert your existing license, make sure your Philippine license has a 1,2 under Restrictions in the bottom left corner. 1 is for motorcycle, and 2 is for car.

Had a checkup..in April. I’m 6’3” and weighed 250 lbs. Uric Acid was 7.2...and the good cholesterol was a little low. BP 140/90. No diabetes.

    1. Lose weight

    2. Celecoxib 400 mg

    3. Febuxostat 40 mg

    4. Rosuvastatin Calcium 5mg

    5. Portal East Gym...several weight machines for 30 minutes and long bike for 30 minutes.

Lots of water. Eggs for breakfast at McDonalds, an occasional wine, no salt, no junk food, fruits and Romaine lettuce with Feta cheese. Low purine foods. No caffeine

Weight is 225, Uric Acid 2.3, BP 110/80 yesterday.

All my XXL shirts are way too big. Had to poke an extra hole in my belt. Have 42 to 46 waist shorts and pants. They fall to the floor without a belt.

It wasn’t that difficult, and occasionally there’s eye candy at the gym.

My doctor is Jennifer Emperado , she has an office at the new hospital.....there’s no crowds at the new hospital.

Took my wife's Kia Picanto in today for it's one year service. Took forever to tell us what items would need to be changed and how much it would cost. My wife now queries everything that is billed to us, she looked at the bill and asked what each item was. When she got to the 4th item, she was told that this was the technicians gloves and cloth ( 250 peso ) and were genuine Kia items. I said what the f##k, do we have to pay for soap to wash his hands. My wife quickly told him to remove the item and that it was like hospitals here, where you are even charged for the toilet roll. The moral of this story is, always check everything you are billed for, as someone will always try to make a little extra on the side.
