Please ignore if you have no interest in this.

I have been providing post stroke update every 3 months to assist others who might be going through this. If it also serves as a heads up to those with high blood pressure or high cholesterol levels than good.

It has now been 2 years since I had a pretty nasty stroke. There is some pretty good progress. Maintaining my positive attitude, my current status is as follows. If I have someone walking next to me in case I sway to the right, I can walk about 45 minutes on my own. I need help to get up or sit down and I need help and a cane to go up or down steps, and I need my wife to shower and shave me while I sit in a chair. My balance is not very good and my right leg and arm have about 50% paralysis so I can not use my right hand to eat, drink or write. However, I am able to do light weights and machines at the gym so my right hand grip has improved, my brother-in-law helps me navigate the gym and he is my driver. My voice is maybe 75% normal. My good arm and leg are numb while my right arm and leg have constant tingling and feel very heavy. My face has regained most of its shape but the right side is numb, and unfortunately my double chin has returned.
Truthfully, I thought I would have my balance after 2 years but I do have control of my body movements and functions. The doctor says I should expect only a 70% recovery. I don't accept that and will keep working toward a full recovery.

If you would like more information PM me.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson announced today that a prior male sex offender was sentenced in court today for abusing five separate children in the Philippines.

Kenneth Gaylord Stokes, 71, a U.S. citizen who resided near the city of Cebu in the Philippines, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool to 120 years in federal prison without parole.

On Jan. 27, 2015, Stokes pleaded guilty to five counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places. Stokes was arrested at his Philippines residence on Dec. 3, 2012, and deported to the United States. He has been in federal custody without bond since his arrest. Stokes has a prior conviction for raping a 7-year-old child in the state of Washington.

Guys like this just need to be put down. No sense in wasting taxpayers money keeping them alive in prison.

Please refrain from posting graphic pictures of victims/death on the forum. Leave that nonsense to FB, we will respect the families here. You can leave a link to the FB post but make sure it does not embed the images.

To only leave a link type a phrase such as "FB post here", highlight it, click the link button in the editor (looks like a chain icon) and then paste your link there. I have edited your post to remove the embedded images.

Hopefully they find the killers soon and they are punished to the fullest extent of the law.

I disagree Stefan, if you share the view that 99 in 100 Pinay-foreigner relationships have:
    1. a golddigger Pinay girl and
    2. a foreigner who's either in need of a helper/nurse or a bedmate or both?
then you are sadly misinformed; maybe had too many "discussions" with drunks at local bars?

The bedmate thing being very common in relationships everywhere I think we can safely scrap that one as totally irrelevant,
but even the gold-digging helper/nurse strikes me as an insult to my wife and many others I happen to know; actually among my friends I know of not a single situation where the characterisation might apply.

As far as I am concerned you can either retract your view or stick it where the sun don't shine.
I am sure there are some exceptions, but my view is that a large majority of long term pinay/foreigner relationships are not at all like that.

Current restrictions would make it quite difficult if not impossible to travel here, as has already been mentioned. If and when you can travel here to research your options, I would concentrate on the places south of Dumaguete (Bacong, Dauin, Zamboanguita), or even the neighbouring small island of Siquijor if being near the beach is an essential priority. Dumaguete doesn't have much of an attractive beach, further south it's better, Siquijor has some really nice beaches, and the ferry to Dumaguete takes only an hour for the occasional shopping trip.

    Thanks for the positive input.

A VERY small minority of members actually resent being given information, especially if it consists of more than a few words - they seem not to grasp that they have the ability to skip what they don't like or what overloads them!

But at the times someone needs information, it can often be found here on this Forum on a wide range of subjects and posted by members with a huge combined range of knowledge and experience (that is the only reason I was able to construct that list). Very many will go out of their way to help and that is the real strength of this really amazing website.

This thread is not about COVID and will not turn into one.

To answer the OP's question: yes, travel to Negros is possible. No, it is not worth the trouble and you would have all kinds of problems trying to get all the proper documentation. Wait until all this nonsense is over.

I had a fight and won from Globe, but I didn't choose for a lawyer. Instead I had the Consumer Protection Group of the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) backing me up. Globe bend over backwards for me as soon as the DTI became involved and compensated me fully in record time. Good luck!

    Sir,
I strongly recommend returning to your home country, if you can.
The medical facilities here and training are beyond repair, It's just another , Chinese backed, money machine with no interest in human interest. The Hippocratic oath is a joke... ( First do no harm). The medical care here is not as good as the states, the UK or any other industrial country. Likely never be.
Whoever these characters are who are telling you different , well it's likely they had a tooth extraction or similar. They Know nothing !!
Sadly, very sadly my 7 year old son was taken into Silliman hospital last August. He was diagnosed with a chest infection. Their diagnosis was so wrong it is criminal . They, as usual, put him on antibiotics.
Complete idiots, charlatans and fraudsters everyone of them.
I was driving to the airport on my way to Manila, my wife called me and said he'd been RUSHED into ICU..
I went straight to the so called hospital and within an hour watched my beloved son die an awful death.
He had Type One diabetes , no insulin at hand but worst of all and every hospital on the planet does it, No blood/sugar test.
Yes, we are suing. We have a lawyer in Manila because the lawyers in Dumaguete either haven't got the balls or the will be prone to bribery, etc.
We caught the senior paediatric doctor sneaking through the back door, "Oh, what do you two want" ? Her damned arrogance was tangible, I soon knocked that out of her ( not physically). I told her that we are suing every person on duty , including her because she couldn't be found, probably moonlighting.

    They disgust me....

Oh yeah, after killing my son I was charged 60,000 pesos. Small potatoes if he'd survived.
I can't wait to get them in court

Jackass goes into horrible, high risk business which he probably knows nothing about.

Business lends money, jackass is SHOCKED that people won't repay their loans.

Jackass is SHOCKED that the legal system in the Philippines is corrupt and slow.

There is no oppression here, this guy was just stupid.

We can b*tch about things all day long and point out problems. At the end of the day, you have to watch your own @ss. If you are stupid enough to get screwed over in the Philippines then you will get screwed over anywhere. The U.S. business environment is better in some ways and more difficult in others. I have seen foreign business owners do things in the Philippines which would put them in jail in the U.S.

On another note, the requirement of Filipino's being part owner of your business is a deal breaker. You are forced to choose a business structure which allows this part ownership (corporation) even though this may not be the best structure for your business. Often foreigners pick wives, house maids or other people they don't even know to be part owners. While this may work in some cases, it's ridiculous to give away part ownership to someone who hasn't earned or paid for it. This includes your wife.

As Warren Buffet says, don't try to be smart. Just don't be stupid.
